The Vezina Trophy is always a wild race, with surprises lurking around every corner. This season, keep an eye on Colorado’s Blackwood or Wedgewood if one locks down the starter role on a playoff-bound Avalanche squad. In St. Louis, Joel Hofer could explode into contention if he gets more ice time and the Blues turn things around. And don’t sleep on Lukas Dostal in Anaheim — a bounce-back year and team improvement could make him a dark horse contender. The usual suspects are there, but these goalies are primed for an unexpected Vezina run.

The Boston Bruins just handed Fraser Minten a seven-year, $7.2M average annual deal—set to start in 2027-28—that’s more than just a gamble; it’s a strategic investment in his potential. At just 22 and with only 107 NHL games under his belt, Minten’s upside is huge. His breakout season—17 goals, 35 points in 82 games—gave the Bruins confidence, and without a no-trade clause, they retain flexibility. With few high-end center prospects on the roster, this move locks in a key piece for their long-term rebuild. While some fans may balk at the cost, this contract could turn out to be a steal if Minten continues to develop.

Tyler Seguin’s ACL recovery is proving to be his toughest NHL battle yet, with setbacks and a slower-than-usual nine-month timeline forcing him to focus on daily progress. GM Jim Nill praised Seguin’s evolved game—faceoffs, scoring, leadership—and expressed optimism as the Stars await his return, eager to see the versatile star evolve into a cornerstone of their future.
