In this conversation, Paloma and Rebecca talk about moving through depression with the transformative power of dance movement therapy. They discuss it's accessibility, the role of imagination, and the impact that numbing has on the body and one's ability to heal. Paloma shares personal experiences and insights from working in therapeutic settings, emphasizing the importance of body awareness and somatic healing as a way to connect and process emotions held in the body. They discuss innovative practices like embodied journaling and grounding techniques, highlighting how movement can serve as both a coping mechanism and a way to feel more alive. The dialogue underscores the mind-body connection and the necessity of nurturing one's emotional and physical well-being through creative expression.
About Paloma:
Paloma was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in South Florida, beginning her dance training at just two years old. Dance has been her first language since childhood—an expressive outlet beyond words. She earned her BFA in Dance from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and more recently completed her MA in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling at Drexel University. Her dance career began with 13+ years in competitive dance. Her dual path as artist and therapist is rooted in a belief in movement’s power to heal, connect, and transform.
