🤷🏻‍♀️ Do you wonder where the mystical land of work/life balance is? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️Are you searching, striving, or longing to discover a better way to lead yourself and your family? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️Is your soul weary and often overextended and overwhelmed? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️Do you want to build your business or career but are afraid of letting one of those spinning plates drop? ✝ ✝ Are you looking for older women of faith who can share their nuggets of wisdom and offer you the encouragement you need to be a better you? Well, Marvelous Mom and Magnificant Mom-To-Be, , I’m Misty Hughes, I have been in that place. I spent countless years searching, weeping, and whining to God about the lack of older women who might serve as a mentor for me. I was a young mom, raising 4 kids, divorced, without a clue as to how to live in Christ, manage my home, provide for the family, love my kids, and care for myself. I looked around my church for a woman I could emulate. I longed for someone I could look to for wisdom. I ached for an older woman to encourage me. I wanted someone approachable, someone who had weathered the storms of life and was sailing on to her brighter future. I looked for a ✝ Faith Filled woman ✝ A woman who spoke words of life to others ✝ A leader in the church or community ✝ A woman who was actively reaching out, offering hospitality to younger women ✝ A mom who was encouraging others in godliness ✝ An overcomer ✝ A confident woman ✝ A woman who loved her family well + A woman who worked outside of the home or had her own business I read in my Bible about this Titus 2 older woman; I had images of what that should look like in my life. But I found no one. After a few years of grumbling and complaining, and maybe even a temper tantrum or two, I began to ask God to make me the solution to the problem. At the age of 36, newly divorced and a hot mess, I began inviting college girls to coffee, lunch, or to our home for dinner. My personal journey of being a mentor had begun. Over the years, I have mentored, coached, and taught countless women. I have also had the privilege of meeting many exceptional women who walk in wisdom, insight, and integrity. (The mentors we all long for.) Each week, I invite you to PRESS PAUSE on the busy demands of life, sit around the table with some of the most amazing women you will ever meet, glean nuggets of wisdom from these expert moms, and find answers to the questions your heart is searching for. So, grab your drink of choice, plug in those AirPods, and get ready to drink the encouragement your weary soul needs! • Grandma's Table with Morgan & Mom
    2026/10/22

A mother-daughter conversation on hospitality: Grandma Dora's kitchen, banana muffins made "wrong," and the difference between serving and truly hosting.

🥧 Some of the best conversations in our family have happened around a kitchen table... so this week, Morgan and I pulled up a chair at Grandma's.

We go all the way back to my grandma Dora's house. Blackberry cobbler coming out of the oven. Homemade pancakes and syrup. Snapping green beans on the porch swing. A whole weekend of learning to make Christmas candy, side by side. Hers was the home you could call on a whim and say, "Hey, I'm coming"... and she'd feed you all day.

Then Morgan tells the story of the first thing she ever cooked by herself: banana muffins, made completely out of order. 🍌 They turned out great, and that moment became a philosophy she still lives by. We talk about selling Pampered Chef together when Morgan was homeschooled (our very first "podcast," honestly), why she'd rather feed you roast chicken at her table than meet you at a restaurant, and what happens to a conversation when someone is being nourished.

Then it happens, the magic that happens every time we talk,

We land on the thing that has quietly shaped both of us: the difference between serving people and truly hosting them.

Grandma's house was a gathering place... but she rarely sat down. Years ago, scrubbing baseboards before a Sunday school party, I realized I wanted something more. To be present. To give the gift of my presence and receive the gift of theirs. 🎁

We close with what's next for each of us at the table: letting go of having everything ready before the doorbell rings, inviting people into the process, and a Thanksgiving cookie promise that's now on tape. So we're committed. 😉

If this conversation stirs up a memory of a table where you felt like you belonged... we'd love to hear about it.

This is just us, talking. If you want more, here's where to find me.

  • Is There A Seat For Me At The Table with Morgan & Mom
    2026/10/15

Mother-daughter conversation on faith and belonging: Morgan asks Misty if there's a seat for her at their Puerto Rico women's retreat.

"Do you think it will be okay if I... like..."

Morgan asked me that halfway through our conversation. And I didn't see it coming.

Last week we told you about Rooted & Reaching... seven women, five days, a house on the beach in Puerto Rico this January. This week we talk about WHY.

Why Puerto Rico (it's where Morgan and I found our way back to each other). Why the table. Why seven women instead of a conference room full.

Morgan is coming to cook and to teach yoga in the mornings. And then she asked the honest question... would there really be room for her at that table? Would it be "Jesus light"... or "Jesus heavy"? Would she get to be a participant, or just an observer?

We didn't rush past it. We stayed right there with it, a little tender and very honest, until we both found our way to something true.

We also talk about the strengths work on day one, long hours by the pool, a little rappelling 😉, Morgan turning 40, and why everybody in Puerto Rico claps when the plane lands. 🌊

And we talk about why this matters so much to us.

You can journal on your own, and that's good.

But something different happens when you're sitting across from someone who's curious about you... asking the questions you haven't thought to ask yourself yet.

  • Hard Sh*t and Hope With Morgan & Mom
    2026/10/08

Mother-daughter conversation on involuntary change: Misty and Morgan both divorced at 36. What kept them standing and the hope they found on the other side.

"Wait... did we get divorced at the same age?"

    36. Both of us. And neither of us had ever put that together until the mic was on. 🎙️

This week on Morgan & Mom, we talk about the change we never chose... the marriage that ends, the plan that falls apart, the future that disappears overnight.

Morgan's first instinct was to change EVERYTHING else (quit the job, sell the house, start over somewhere new) just to feel some control again. Instead, she made herself a rule: don't change anything that isn't already changing. And she stayed.

I was on my bedroom floor asking one question... what is still solid?

The answer was Jesus. And "I'm a mom. I'll get up tomorrow and still be a mom."

We talk about what kept each of us standing: a 12-week yoga teacher training that started the week Morgan's marriage ended, flower beds I dug by hand while praying "Lord, make something beautiful," and yes... good coffee and good hair product. ☕

Then the conversation turns. What if unchosen change is an invitation to discover who we really are?

Morgan shares the postcard she kept for years ("Leap and the net will appear"), and I share the words Jesus spoke to my heart in one of my darkest seasons: "As deep as the pain goes, my joy goes even deeper." 🌱

We didn't solve the world's problems. But we landed somewhere true.

A quick heads-up: we use some language we don't usually use on this podcast. It's in the title. You'll understand why.

✨ Stay to the end... From January 20–25, 2027, Morgan and I are inviting just seven women to sit around the table with us in Puerto Rico. It's called Rooted & Reaching: five days of honest conversation, rest, and getting real about who God is inviting you to BECOME in this next season.
