In this episode of Destination Philosophy, we explore the Milesian School of Philosophy, the birthplace of Western philosophy. The thinkers of Miletus, an ancient Greek city in Ionia, were among the first to move beyond mythological explanations and seek rational, natural causes for the universe’s existence.
We discuss the three pioneering Miletian philosophers:
🔹 Thales – Considered the first philosopher, he proposed that water is the fundamental principle (arche) of all things.
🔹 Anaximander – Introduced the idea of the Apeiron, an infinite and indefinite substance that governs the cosmos.
🔹 Anaximenes – Argued that air is the essential element from which everything emerges through processes of condensation and rarefaction.
These early thinkers laid the foundation for scientific and philosophical inquiry, shifting human understanding from myth to reason. Tune in to discover how their revolutionary ideas shaped the course of Western thought! 🚀🎙️
