The Marlins pulled off a dramatic 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks in extra innings, thanks to Esteury Ruiz’s clutch three-run double in the 11th. Eight pitchers combined to keep Arizona in check, with Josh Ekness earning the win in the late innings. Miami’s offense was efficient — just five hits, including a solo homer from Griffin Conine — while the D-backs struck first with Gabriel Moreno’s blast. Though both teams are chasing playoff relevance — Arizona two and a half games back, Miami fighting for their first winning season — the Marlins could be spoilers. Meanwhile, minor league action saw Pensacola fall in the Southern League playoffs opener, while Tampa evened its Florida State League title series.

Marlins closer Pete Fairbanks’ season hit another rough patch as he exited Monday’s game after just six pitches, visibly frustrated by recurring nerve issues that have plagued him all year—forcing two prior stints on the injured list and causing numbness in his hand and arm. Despite recent specialist visits, no clear solution exists, and with the Marlins clinging to a playoff race and only 11 games left, Fairbanks’ health uncertainty casts a shadow over both his future and the team’s postseason hopes.
