In 1742, the renowned German-British composer G.F. Handel premiered his iconic oratorio, Messiah. A century later, in 1785, Westminster Abbey celebrated Handels birth with a grand commemoration. It was during this event that John Newton felt inspired to deliver a series of 50 sermons based on the biblical passages that form the libretto, crafted by Charles Jennens. These sermons, presented over two years at the Parish Church of St. Mary Woolnoth, just three miles from the Abbey, delve deeply into the spiritual and artistic significance of Handels work. Join us as we explore the profound insights and reflections that emerged from this remarkable journey. - Summary by InTheDesert
