The Matthew Biblical Exposition series you are now listening to consists of twenty-eight chapters and is divided into six volumes. This first volume covers Matthew chapters one through four. The content is organized by topic and divided into three sections: Biblical Exposition, Sermon, and Questions and Answers. The four Gospels record the ministry of Jesus, who came into this world, called His disciples, preached the gospel of the kingdom of heaven with them, and saved sinners. Matthew chapters 1–4 testify that He is the promised King and Savior, through the genealogy and birth of Jesus, the ministry of John the Baptist, the baptism and temptation of Jesus, and the proclamation of the gospel of the kingdom of heaven and the calling of the disciples. At the center of these accounts is the baptism of Jesus recorded in Matthew 3:13–17. Through this baptism, all the sins of the world were passed on to Jesus, the Holy Spirit came down upon Him, and God the Father testified that He was His beloved Son. Jesus received on the Cross the judgment for the sins He had borne and rose again to complete salvation. Believe in this gospel of the water and the Spirit with your heart, receive the remission of all sins, and discover the joy and freedom that the children of God enjoy. ● Scripture quotations used in this book are from the ‘New King James Version (NKJV)’, ‘American Standard Version (ASV)’. ● This audiobook is an original human creation based on the sermons of Rev. Paul C. Jong. The Gospel of Matthew, as the first book that opens the New Testament, records how the salvation that God promised in the era of the Old Testament was fulfilled through Jesus Christ. Matthew testifies that Jesus is the Christ of promise, who came as a descendant of Abraham and David, and the Son of God, who would save His people from their sins. This book is the first Bible study textbook that expounds the word of Matthew chapters 1 through 4 from the perspective of the gospel of the water and the Spirit.

  • General Introduction
    2026/08/14

The consistent tradition handed down from the early church regards the author of the Gospel of Matthew as the Apostle Matthew, one of the twelve disciples. Church tradition has regarded Matthew the tax collector in Matthew 9:9 and Levi in Mark 2:14 and Luke 5:27 as the same person. However, since the Gospel texts do not directly state that Levi is Matthew, it is more accurate to introduce this as the traditional view that they are the same person, rather than to assert that Matthew’s original name was Levi. When Jesus called him as he was sitting at the tax office, he left everything and followed Him (Matthew 9:9), and he afterward became one of the twelve apostles (Matthew 10:3).

    2026/08/14

Matthew chapter 1 is a chapter that reveals who Jesus is through the genealogy and birth of Jesus Christ. It first introduces Jesus as “the Son of David, the Son of Abraham,” and records the genealogy that runs from Abraham through David and the time of the Babylonian captivity down to Christ. This genealogy includes not only the forefathers of faith and kings, but also women of such diverse backgrounds as Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and the wife of Uriah, as well as people who had human faults and failures. The history of mankind broke down many times, but the history of salvation that God had promised was never stopped. Next, it records how Mary was found with child of the Holy Spirit before she came to live with Joseph, and the anguish of Joseph, who came to know this. Through an angel, God tells Joseph that the baby conceived in Mary is of the Holy Spirit, and that he shall call His name Jesus. Jesus is the One who will save His people from their sins, and at the same time He is the One who fulfills the promise of “Immanuel,” that God is with man. Joseph believes the word of God, takes Mary in as his wife, and names the baby Jesus.
