In 1972, seven-year-old Steven Stayner disappeared while walking home from school in Merced, California. For more than seven years, he was forced to live under another name, until the kidnapping of five-year-old Timothy White pushed Steven to make a decision that would save them both.

In Part 1, we tell Steven’s story on its own: his abduction, the years he spent living as “Dennis Parnell,” his escape, his difficult return home, and the complicated life that followed after survival.
