SMU’s electric QB Kevin Jennings, already throwing for 700+ yards and 8 TDs in two games, leads a high-octane offense against Louisville’s rising dual-threat star Lincoln Kienholz, who’s already racked up 3 rushing TDs and 300+ passing yards in his first two starts. With SMU’s defense ranking No. 1 nationally in sacks and boasting a 4-0 all-time record against Louisville, this Saturday’s showdown on ESPN2 could be the game that defines both teams’ ACC seasons.

SMU’s season opener against Florida State was a rocky start—four turnovers and still a win—but their game against UC Davis showed what they’re capable of: zero turnovers, zero interceptions, zero fumbles. Coach Rhett Lashlee’s message is clear: ball security is the key to their identity. With Louisville looming next, a team that averages over 50 points and thrives on forcing turnovers, SMU’s clean play could be the difference between victory and defeat. This matchup will test whether they can carry that disciplined football IQ into high-stakes action.

Louisville’s defense just got a massive boost as linebacker Kalib Perry returns for Saturday’s big ACC showdown against SMU, cleared by a legal ruling on NCAA eligibility. Perry, who transferred from Tennessee and logged 55 tackles last season, adds crucial experience to a already strong linebacking corps. With SMU’s high-powered QB Kevin Jennings already throwing for over 430 yards this year—and Louisville’s all-time losing streak against them—Perry’s return could be the key to breaking that pattern and setting the tone for a championship-contending season.

Louisville football is riding a wave of momentum with one win and one loss, primed to make a statement against top-16 SMU in a pivotal ACC showdown. Ranked 23rd nationally — behind Oregon at 21st — the Cardinals are quietly building a case for higher billing after a gritty near-upset against No. 8 Ole Miss and a brutal loss to Oklahoma State’s shocking upset over Oregon. With playoff eyes on, Louisville’s chance to climb past Oregon this weekend feels more than just a game — it’s a national credibility check. And yet, they’re getting less TV love than their rivals? That’s the real story.

Louisville’s offense is exploding with two four-star transfers, Lawayne McCoy and Tre Richardson, already rewriting the playbook in just two games. Richardson lit up the field with a 62-yard TD catch and a 30-yard TD run from Vanderbilt, while McCoy dazzled with a 54-yard touchdown against Ole Miss from Florida State. Together with QB Lincoln Kienholz, they’ve turned Louisville’s passing game into a scoring machine — averaging 48.5 points and 552 yards per game. Last week, Richardson led the team with seven catches, and McCoy topped them in receiving yards with 102, including another big play. With SMU looming and kickoff at 3:30 PM, their next performance could decide whether this momentum continues or fades.

Tre Richardson is lighting up the college football scene—already earning a spot on the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll after a dazzling debut. In Louisville’s opener, he scored with a 30-yard rush and a 62-yard catch-and-run touchdown, finishing with four catches for 83 yards and that rushing TD. Versatility at its finest. Now, he’s set to carry that momentum into their home opener against Villanova this Friday night at 7 PM ET on the ACC Network. Keep an eye on this breakout star.
