On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in David Lasseter to recap the Panthers 6-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs as the Panthers were ready from the jump with getting the first 20+ shot attempts and they swamed the Leafs. Although the Leafs tiled the ice after their first shot 12 minutes in, it was a 0-0 game heading into the second. Florida's blue line was pretty leaky at the end of the first where the Leafs bottom six got their chances off the rush, but the Panthers were able to keep it scoreless. The floodgates started to open in the second period, starting with a goal off the rush by Seth Jones, where he would also get an assist on a high hockey IQ play where he prevented the play from being offside as the Panthers started to pour it on. Another trade acquisition in Brad Marchand got involved in the game, where he is used to playing the Leafs in a Game 7, and he made his mark as the Cats continued to come in waves with their on-puck pressure in the offensive zone, Marchand finished with 3 point (1,2) on the night. More importantly, during the long change period, the cats cleaned up the rush defense. Although the Leafs scored off a poor line change, the Panthers responded 47 second later and put their foot on the Leafs throat with Eetu Luostarinen redirecting Brad Marchand's shot passed Joseph Woll. Luostarinen now leads the NHL in most road points during the Stanley Cup playoffs and has been a key contributor to the top nine and the PK. The Panthers got two road wins in Toronto and have now advanced to their third straight conference final, where it'll be a rematch of the 2023 ECF, where the Panthers swept the Hurricanes, all by one goal in each game. The Canes lost a few pieces in the offseason and were still able to have their play style get them as the final four in the NHL. The Panthers similarly to their game 7 win in Boston in 2023, they'll have a quick turnaround as they will quickly turn around and make a trip to another city before eventually returning home.
