On today's episode of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to discuss the Panthers 4-3 SO win over the Dallas Stars, as Brad Marchand made his return to the lineup after missing Tuesday's game due to the death of the daughter of his longtime trainer, JP MacCallum, Selah. With a heavy heart, Marchand got the Cats on the board first and they were once again working as a five-man unit as they were able to roll their lines on Saturday night. Marchand also gave the Cats the win in the shootout as he came in with a burst of speed. The Stars scored twice as the Cats went to the box for a high-stick double minor, but even then they didn't panic as they controlled play. Defenseman Donovan Sebrango made his Cats debut, playing on a pair with Jeff Petry and both performed exceptionally well in Sebrango's debut, and their ability to not give away open ice easily in OT with Dallas getting multiple line changes and the Panthers inability to change was a big moment in the game where they were able to get it to the shootout, where the Cats came out victorious. Great things came in 17's, as the Panthers gave up no more than those amount of shots against in regulation throughout the home stand, and they now sit at first in the NHL at shots against per game, 1.4 shots better than the next best team, which goes to show the Panthers winning formula is present even without key pieces. The Panthers now head on their second road trip of the season, where certain places they've been successful and other places, not so much. We are under 100 days away from the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, and final rosters are due on December 31st. With Sam Bennett being off to a slow start, will it cost him a spot on the roster? Bennett's four nations and Panther teammate Brad Marchand took a leave to make it back home to Nova Scotia to help out a friend in need in long time trainer JP MacCallum, who unfortunately lost his daughter Selah to cancer at the age of 10, Marchand was seen coaching MacCallum's U18 team on Wednesday night, and the two discuss the Brad Marchand off the ice being a good samaritan. The Panthers defensively have been playing at an elite level, but that doesn't mean that they won't look for additional help for their third pair, according to David Dwork of The Hockey News, the Cats are exploring the defense market, who are possible names that the Cats will target? Lastly, the Panthers wrap up their home stand this Saturday against the Dallas Stars, who are one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup, and have put all their chips in to try to win it this year.
