Washington Capitals face a tricky goaltending dilemma as waiver-eligible Clay Stevenson emerges as a serious contender for Logan Thompson’s backup spot. With three goalies—Thompson, Stevenson, and Charlie Lindgren—vying for just two roster positions, GM Chris Patrick must weigh the risk of losing Stevenson on waivers against sacrificing roster flexibility all season. Which goalie will be squeezed out, and could a trade be looming for Lindgren after a rocky season?

DAN HOLMI breaks down the ripple effects of a three-goalie roster, analyzing how it forces tough choices for forwards and defensemen like Johnny Brodzinski and Ivan Miroshnichenko battling for their own roster spots. The episode highlights Lindgren’s trade value, Stevenson’s impressive numbers, and the front office’s asset management challenges amidst tight salary cap constraints. Can the Capitals afford to risk losing a promising netminder or will a late preseason trade shake up the roster?
