  • How Can the Holy Spirit Help Us? // Masashi Shibuya
    2025/04/26

God is with us, and He wants to help us! At Pentecost, we received the ultimate gift—the Holy Spirit. Discover how the Holy Spirit can empower you today!

    ———————————————————

God is with You and He Wants to Help

    Jesus’s Love For Peter

    (John 21:15-19 NIV)

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” (16) Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” (17) The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. (18) Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” (19) Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

    Promise of Jesus (Helper)

    (Acts 1:4-5 NIV)

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. (5) For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

    (Acts 1:8 NIV)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

    The Day of Pentecost

    (Acts 2:1-4 NIV)

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. (2) Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. (3) They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. (4) All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

The Holy Spirit Enables Us To Be Strong Leaders

Peter Preaches the Good News with Boldness

    (Acts 2:38-41 NIV)

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (39) The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” (40) With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” (41) Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

How Can the Holy Spirit Help Us?

    (Acts 1:8 NLT)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

    (Acts 2:1-4 ERV)

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. (2) Suddenly a noise came from heaven. It sounded like a strong wind blowing. This noise filled the whole house where they were sitting. (3) They saw something that looked like flames of fire. The flames were separated and stood over each person there. (4) They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak different languages. The Holy Spirit was giving them the power to do this.

    (Acts 2:14,38 ERV)

Then Peter stood up with the other eleven apostles. He spoke loudly so that all the people could hear. He said, “My Jewish brothers and all of you who live in Jerusalem, listen to me. I will tell...

  • At the Cross -- The Power of Jesus's Death // Monty Plummer
    2025/04/12

What happened at the Cross? Forgiveness, Love, Salvation, and Victory came at a price. Tune in this week to learn how the power of Jesus’s victory can impact our lives!

    ----------------------------------

At the Cross - The Power of Jesus’s Death

    (Mark 15:15 NLT)

So to pacify the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.

    (Mark 15:17-20 NLT)

They dressed him in a purple robe, and they wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head. (18) Then they saluted him and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!” (19) And they struck him on the head with a reed stick, spit on him, and dropped to their knees in mock worship. (20) When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.

    (Luke 23:34 NLT)

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.

    Forgiveness

    (John 19:26-27 NLT)

When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman, here is your son.” (27) And he said to this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home.

    Love

    (Luke 23:39-43 NLT)

One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!” (40) But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? (41) We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” (42) Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” (43) And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

    Salvation

    (John 19:30 NLT)

When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

    TETELESTAI

    (Luke 23:47 NLT)

When the Roman officer overseeing the execution saw what had happened, he worshiped God and said, “Surely this man was innocent.”

    (Mark 15:39 NLT)

When the Roman officer who stood facing him saw how he had died, he exclaimed, “This man truly was the Son of God!”

    (Colossians 2:13-15 NLT)

You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. (14) He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. (15) In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

  • How Do I Fight Back When Life Gets Tough? // Richard Welsh
    2025/04/05

How do you fight back when life gets tough? Jesus showed the way—with God's Word, the Sword of the Spirit! How do we use this powerful weapon? Find out this week!

    ---------------------------------

How Do I Fight Back When Life Gets Tough?

    (Ephesians 6:17 NLT)

Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

    (Matthew 4:1-4 NIV)

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. (2) After fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry. (3) The tempter came to Him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” (4) Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Know Your Weaknesses & Know The Word

    (Psalm 119:11 NIV)

I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.

    (Colossians 3:23 NLT)

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

    (1 John 1:9 NLT)

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

    (Matthew 4:5-7 NIV)

Then the devil took Him to the holy city and had Him stand on the highest point of the temple. (6) “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You, and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’” (7) Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

Know the Enemy’s Lies & Know The Truth

    (Ephesians 4:14 NLT)

Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won't be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.

    (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV)

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, (17) so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

    (Matthew 4:8-11 NIV)

Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. (9) “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” (10) Jesus said to him, “Away from Me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’” (11) Then the devil left Him, and angels came and attended Him.

Attack With Scripture Quickly & With Faith

    (James 4:7 NIV)

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

    (Ephesians 6:10 ERV)

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

  • "How Can I Have Better Mental Health? Helmet of Salvation" // Monty Plummer
    2025/03/29

How can we improve our mental health? The Helmet of Salvation protects our thoughts and guards our hearts! When we declare Jesus as Lord, we begin to experience His transformative power!

    -------------------------------

How Can I Have Better Mental Health?

    Helmet of Salvation

    (Ephesians 6:10-11, 17a NLT)

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. (11) Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

…(17) Put on salvation as your helmet.

    (Romans 10:9-10 NLT)

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (10) For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

    (Proverbs 4:23 NIV)

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

    (Proverbs 4:23 NLT)

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

    (Proverbs 4:23 ERV)

Above all, be careful what you think because your thoughts control your life.

    (Luke 8:35-36 NIV)

And the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. (36) Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed man had been cured.

We Need to Get PROACTIVE with Our Thoughts!

    (Mark 7:20 NLT 1996)

And then he added, “It is the thought-life that defiles you.”

    (Colossians 2:8-9 NLT)

Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. (9) For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.

    (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NLT)

We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. (4) We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. (5) We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

Think Like God Wants Us To

    (Colossians 3:1-2 NLT)

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. (2) Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

    (Philippians 4:8-9 NLT)

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (9) Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Change Your Thinking in a Moment!

    (Romans 12:2 NLT)

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

    (Colossians 3:10 NLT)

Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.

    (Colossians 3:14-15 NLT)

Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. (15) And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.

  • Peace that Comes from the Good News // Masashi Shibuya
    2025/03/15

What is Good News? And how is peace connected to Good News? What kind of message does God want to share with us? Let’s learn how to tune into His voice!

    ------------------------------

Peace that Comes from the Good News

    (Ephesians 6:10 ERV)

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

    (Ephesians 6:15 NLT)

For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.

    (Acts 8:26-38 NLT)

As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him, “Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (27) So he started out, and he met the treasurer of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under the Kandake, the queen of Ethiopia. The eunuch had gone to Jerusalem to worship, (28) and he was now returning. Seated in his carriage, he was reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah. (29) The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.” (30) Philip ran over and heard the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” (31) The man replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” And he urged Philip to come up into the carriage and sit with him. (32) The passage of Scripture he had been reading was this: “He was led like a sheep to the slaughter. And as a lamb is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. (33) He was humiliated and received no justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth.” (34) The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, was the prophet talking about himself or someone else?” (35) So beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus. (36) As they rode along, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look! There’s some water! Why can’t I be baptized?” (38) He ordered the carriage to stop, and they went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.

    Always Be Ready

    (2 Timothy 4:2 NLT)

Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.

    (Colossians 4:5-6 NLT)

Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. (6) Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

    Brush Off Any Disappointments

    (Matthew 10:14 NLT)

If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave.

Follow and Be Obedient to the Voice of God

    (Romans 10:14-15 NLT)

But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? (15) And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”

    CONNECT GROUP QUESTIONS:

What is the product of Good News? (Ephesians 6:15 NLT)

How was Philip ready to share about Jesus? (Acts 8:26-38 NLT)

What does it mean to always be ready to share about Jesus? (2 Timothy 4:2 NLT, Colossians 4:5-6 NLT)

What should we do if someone doesn’t listen to the Good News? (Matthew 10:14 NLT)

How can we personally obey God’s voice in sharing the Good News?
