Rashida is a public servant, an author, and the founder of Black Ember Press. She wrote Permission to Break, hosts the Compassion Over Silence podcast, and is building a nonprofit called Black Ember House while working a full-time job and raising a teenage daughter.

We talk about how your personal demons become your business obstacles, why accepting help was the hardest thing she has ever done, how she got comfortable saying no for right now instead of no forever, and what legacy actually looks like when the car and the title and the degrees still leave you empty. It's that time of year to get ready for our annual golf trip. After learning how to golf in 2020, one of my buddies started organizing yearly trips. But it first came with some pushback because I initially thought it was bougie.

Many people assume golf is an exclusive game, but that perception is changing rapidly. While I believe the black golf stereotypes, black people in golf have a long and successful history that dates back much further than most realize. Plus, I'm glad we can shine a light on us doing it.

It's BGA trip #6! This year the Black Golfers Association crew (me, Julian, Marvin, David, and the squad) touched down in Scottsdale, Arizona for a golf getaway with a twist, nighttime golf in 100-degree heat. From a surprise speakeasy toast at PDX before takeoff, to a house and pool tour, a pro shop military discount, and finally teeing off after dark at Grand Rolling Hills under lights (with it still being 100° at 9PM), this one has it all.
