    Dr. Heather Backstrom is an accomplished executive coach, facilitator, author and speaker. She is passionate about cultivating empowered women leaders. She has coached leaders in many industries including finance, biotech, retail, municipalities, aerospace, media, healthcare, and nonprofits. She is the author of the women’s leadership book, Collaborative Confidence: How women leaders can activate self-awareness, amplify their authentic talents, and accelerate workplace change. Heather enjoys traveling and has floated on the Dead Sea, walked on the Great Wall of China, and ridden a hot air balloon above Stockholm. She’s a long-time volunteer with the Tournament of Roses Association and often spends New Year’s Eve on overnight duty in preparation for the Rose Parade. She ran in one marathon and that was enough. She earned a doctorate in organizational leadership from Pepperdine. She’s a visionary and strategic leader with skills rooted curiosity and hands-on experience. Reading and writing taught her to uncover connections, and she developed critical thinking skills. When Erin landed her first job in marketing, she discovered numbers tell a story — the story of a company’s lifeline. She learned how to read them, honed her skills, and expanded her understanding of market forces. As president of The Nation, Erin spearheaded a corporate restructure, spinning off educational programs seeded by The Nation into a new non-profit, The Nation Fund for Independent Journalism. This shift gave important educational initiatives the light and air they need to thrive. And like all change, it created opportunities. She developed and launched the Fellowship for the Future of Journalism, a groundbreaking, paid two-year program designed to widen and deepen the educational funnel, paving the path to a career in journalism for students from historically underserved communities. Erin writes a monthly column, Never Not Amazed, for her local paper, the Harpswell Anchor and she’s the co-editor and a contributor to an anthology of essays, Alive to This, published by Littoral Books. She puts her values into action every day, working to ensure journalism remains a force for public good. The agency is dedicated to empowering BIPOC women to bridge the gap between their corporate careers and fulfilling, purpose-driven personal brands. Recently serving as Brand Strategy Manager at Humana and Marketing Advisor for the University of Chicago's Duality Accelerator Program, Ramatu specializes in leveraging brand equity to drive growth and innovation. Her work bridges purpose and performance, enabling brands and individuals to thrive in competitive markets. Ramatu’s thought leadership has been recognized at prestigious conferences, including the Marketing and Communications Summit (MAC) and Marketing for the Culture (MFTC). She has also shared her insights through speaking engagements at Twitch, Northwestern University, Latinas in Tech, and the Association of National Advertisers (ANA). In summer 2024, Ramatu will expand her influence as an educator by teaching a Personal Branding Course at Johns Hopkins University. Additionally, her contributions to podcasts like Black Business Matters highlight her commitment to uplifting marginalized voices and fostering inclusive growth.
