Ryan Caron had an upbringing that used to be way more common: growing up on a farm. Ryan and I meet in a local community garden to discuss what was unique about the way of life in a small agricultural community in Northern Alberta. We talk through the highs, the lows, and how growing and collecting food wasn't always something he enjoyed. While we might have our own ideas of small farming communities, Ryan makes the case for "cultural infrastructure" and why we need each other, particularly if we're harvesting anything.

This episode is all about the birds that visit your garden and what they can tell you about your local ecosystem. Whether you're trying to attract more birds or simply give a wing up to those who already call your garden home, we talk through how birds can benefit you and how you can benefit them.

Welcome to the very first episode of the Last Ditch podcast. I get a little bit into what this whole thing will be about, a short history of the Last Ditch project, and who the heck I am. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
