Morry Frenkel speaks with Angie Bell MP, member of the House of Representatives, representing Moncrieff as a Liberal National Party MP, and sitting with the federal Liberal Party. Since February 2026, she has been Shadow Minister for each of Arts, Sport, and Youth. Angie talks about the ongoing repercussion of the doxing of Jewish creatives that occurred soon after the horrors of October 7th, 2023, and is critical of the Labor Government’s failure to deal with the rise of antisemitism that followed. Angie also discusses the vital role of governance in tackling the scandals that have beset Creative Australia, the Australian Government’s principal arts investment and advisory body. Her recommendations to the responsible Minister to address the issues that have arisen around Creative Australia have not produced any response. Finally, Angie looks that the important role the Arts plays in society, but believes there are limits to the challenges posed by creatives.

Morry Frenkel speaks with A/Prof Matteo Vergani, Associate Professor at Deakin University and the director of the Tackling Hate Lab, about the establishment of the Lab and details of its two, recently released reports: Mapping Online Anti-Jewish Hate in Australia: A Big Data Analysis, and From Shock to System: The Rise of Anti-Muslim Hate in Australia. Matteo and his collaborators have used AI interrogation of more than 2 million social media postings in Australia (mainly from the X platform; 2020-2026) to classify and sort hate messages. Anti-Jewish hate peaked immediately after October 7, 2023 and again following the Bondi massacre, the trend also found for anti-Muslim hate messages. Neither has returned to pre-October 7, 2023 levels. Matteo also describes the unexpected result from the analyses showing that sometimes more than 50% of hate is disseminated from small clusters (up to 100 users). More information about the work of the Tackling Hate Lab can be found at www.tacklinghate.org.

Morry Frenkel speaks with Dr. Lauren Chalk, Research Fellow at Monash University's Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation (ACJC) and leader of the Monash Initiative for Rapid Research into Antisemitism (MIRRA) and Noè Harsel, Senior Policy Advisor and Senior Lecturer at the ACJC, and MIRRA team member. Noè outlines the ACJC and MIRRA before introducing MIRRA's new report on Holocaust education and antisemitism in Australia (Holocaust Education and its Role in Addressing Antisemitism in Australia). Noè outlines the ACJC and MIRRA before introducing MIRRA's new report on Holocaust education and antisemitism in Australia (Holocaust Education and its Role in Addressing Antisemitism in Australia). Lauren shares the report's key findings, including participants' uncertainty about the value of Holocaust studies on its own. Holocaust education, Lauren and Noè suggest, has perhaps been burdened with addressing antisemitism single-handedly — it should instead be one part of a broader effort that also examines contemporary Jewish life and contribution to society. Reading the report is highly recommended to appreciate the depth of the study and its outcomes; it can be found at https://www.monash.edu/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/4389674/Holocaust-Education-and-Antisemitism.pdf. Listeners are also recommended to complete the Gen26 survey, a joint initiative of Jewish Communal Appeal and the ACJC, which is designed to map contemporary Jewish life, identity, and community needs across Australia: https://gen26.com.au/.
