  • Kenya's Call for Homegrown Governance and Cultural Reclamation
    2025/07/25

Why Kenya Needs a Homegrown Governance System – A Call for Change

The time has come for Kenya to reconsider the system of governance we’ve followed since independence. For more than 60 years, we’ve modeled our democracy after Western nations, but the results have been disappointing. We’ve endured tribal clashes, corruption, and leadership failures. This isn’t just a passing phase; it’s a deep-rooted pattern. So why do we keep repeating the same mistakes?

Learning from America: Building a System that Works for Us

Over 200 years ago, the United States broke away from Britain’s rule. They didn’t adopt the British monarchy. Instead, they created a system from the ground up, designed for their unique needs, culture, and aspirations. The Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution established a government that was radically different from the British model—a system without monarchy, where power was distributed between three branches: Congress, the Executive, and the Judiciary.

Kenya can take inspiration from America’s example. We don’t have to continue copying Western models that don’t work for us. We can create a system tailored to our unique culture, values, and traditions.

Kenya’s Tribal Diversity: A Strength, Not a Weakness

Kenya is home to 47 diverse counties, each with its own culture, traditions, and languages. Why not celebrate this diversity instead of allowing it to divide us? Tribalism, corruption, and constant political strife have plagued Kenya since independence. Every five years, we are dragged into tribal elections that tear families and communities apart.

But what if we could break this cycle? What if we could design a system that embraces our tribal diversity and allows each county to have a voice?

  • Mfumo wa Utawala wa Kenya: Wito wa Mabadiliko
    2025/07/25

  • Kenya's Corruption: Elites and the Fight for a New Nation
    2025/07/24

Kenya’s System of Corruption: The Elites and the Fight for a New Kenya

Kenya’s political system has been plagued by corruption since its inception in 1963. While the masses—ordinary citizens—have struggled to make ends meet, the political elites have thrived. Raila Odinga, along with other influential figures, has long been part of this system. His moves have often involved cutting deals with Kenya’s most powerful leaders, including Moi, Kibaki, Uhuru, and now Ruto. So, how do we break the cycle? What is the solution? The answer is clear: a total overhaul of the system. Kenya needs a new constitution—one that puts power back in the hands of the people. This essay explores the entrenched corruption in Kenya’s political structure and presents a case for the necessity of a fresh start.

When Kenya gained independence, the narrative of freedom and equality was sold to the masses, but the reality was far different. The political elites who came into power after independence cut deals with the colonial masters, securing not only their positions but also vast economic benefits. These elites understood that power was their currency, and so they ensured that it remained within their grasp.

The system created in 1963 was never intended to benefit ordinary Kenyans. The elite ruling class controlled key aspects of the economy, including land, resources, and political power, leaving millions of people locked in poverty. The colonial structures of governance, though modified, persisted. The promises made to the people were empty, and the exploitation continued under a different guise.

In this system, the vast majority of Kenyans—Onyango, Wanjiku, Otieno, Hussein, Ngala, Wanyonyi, and countless others—were deliberately left behind. The political elite secured their wealth and power, while the rest of the population struggled to access basic services like education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

The System Was Always Designed to Enrich the Elites-https://www.wantamnotam.com/kenyas-system-of-corruption-the-elites-and-the-fight-for-a-new-kenya/

  • Mapambano ya Kenya: Fisi Dhidi ya Kondoo
    2025/07/24

  • Kenya's Hyenas vs. Sheep: A Call for Accountability
    2025/07/24

    Kenya’s Struggle: Hyenas vs Sheep

The Kenyan political landscape is a battle between the “hyenas” and the “sheep.” The elites, the so-called “hyenas,” have been in control for far too long. They enjoy lavish lifestyles, with luxury cars, mansions, and obscene salaries, all while the common citizen is left behind, battling poverty. The citizens—the “sheep”—are left with scraps, living in a country where basic services like education and healthcare are inadequate. The situation is getting worse, not better. The “hyenas” continue to feast on public resources, leaving the citizens with nothing but empty promises and worsening living conditions.

But this is no longer the case for the youth. Gen Z is awake. They have seen the corruption, the injustice, and the broken system. They are refusing to be gullible sheep. Instead, they are taking a stand, demanding change. These young people understand that the future of Kenya depends on their action today. They are not interested in following the same corrupt leaders who have destroyed the nation. Gen Z refuses to let Kenya’s future be shaped by the elites who have used their power for personal gain.

  • Is the EACC Dead? The Failure of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission in Kenya

Is the EACC Dead? The Failure of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission in Kenya

Kenya’s Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has long been a symbol of hope for many who believed that corruption could finally be rooted out of the country. However, today we can confidently say that the EACC has failed. It has become a toothless institution, unable to hold corrupt politicians accountable. Under the leadership of a bishop, the EACC has done nothing significant to combat the rampant corruption that is destroying Kenya. Instead, it has become a symbol of failure, with its leadership enjoying lavish lifestyles, while the citizens continue to suffer. What is the point of having a bishop as the chairman when the EACC has done nothing to tackle corruption?

The EACC’s Failure: No Action, Only Flashy Cars and Fat Salaries

The EACC’s primary responsibility is to fight corruption. It is tasked with investigating corrupt individuals, holding them accountable, and ensuring that public funds are not misused. But what has it achieved under its current leadership? Absolutely nothing. Instead of making strides in fighting corruption, the EACC has become a symbol of failure. With its leadership driving flashy cars, living in expensive homes, and drawing fat salaries, there is nothing tangible to show for their work. The EACC should be a commission working for the people, not for the personal gain of its leaders.
