Nic Allison, also known as Nic the Birding Chick, got into birding during the pandemic because her partner has been a birder his whole life and it's like being with a guide each time. As she was outside more she started feeling better mentally and then her ADHD kicked off and she started to wonder "hmm, that bird eats that butterfly, which pollinates that flower which only grows in special soil in this location.." and she just spiraled into the natural world after reaching burnout in academia and as a museum professional and historian (living through historical event almost daily doesn't help either). Nic has been using nature to calm anxiety and repair her nervous system after a lifetime of being in "fight or flight". Mental health is her jam and nature journaling/doodling has saved her. Nic believes that Nature is her church.
