  • Overcoming Systemic Viewpoints
    2024/09/21

For centuries, society has viewed substance abuse through a narrow, judgmental lens, often labeling it a moral failure, social incompetence or lack of self-control. This dangerous misconception, rooted in elitist ideologies and systemic viewpoints, caused countless families to suffer in silence, isolated and fractured. It wasn’t until 1980, with the recognition of substance abuse as a mental health disorder being identified in the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III) that eyes of many became wide opened for true healing to begin. Although this determination allowed for true healing to begin for many substance abusers and their primary caregivers, for others who had been suffering for decades there was irreparable damage.

In this compelling episode, we sit down with Neil Shovlin, a man, father, and husband of immigrant heritage who courageously shares his family's powerful story of overcoming the devastating impact of substance abuse. Neil opens up about how Al-Anon became the lifeline that helped his family break through harmful societal assumptions, allowing them to heal together. With raw vulnerability, he talks about the faith and resilience it took to push past systemic ideologies that dehumanized those struggling with addiction and their loved ones.

Neil's story goes beyond addiction; it's about dismantling toxic, long-standing beliefs and embracing compassion and self-justice. Whether you’re a parent, partner, or simply someone seeking truth, this conversation will inspire you to challenge outdated perspectives and see individuals and families as the invaluable treasures they are. Tune in for an honest, heart-opening conversation that breaks down the barriers of shame and judgment, offering a message of hope, love and true restoration from a defender of self-justice.

  • Unlocking the Power of Soul-Care: Embracing Holistic Wellness
    2024/09/01

In this soul-stirring episode, we explore the profound connection between spirit, soul, and body, diving into what it means to be created in the image and likeness of God. While some say the spirit gives life, and others say the soul breeds life, I believe that the soul compliments the spirit, nourishing and sustaining the body. There are several scriptures which speak of the soul and how the soul listens and responds because it is part of our spiritual being. For example, it is the prophet Elijah not Isaiah (as I misstated during the recording) who was running away from Jezebel and heard the Voice of God in the wind, as a whisper, of how to move forward in taking the next steps for his life. Elijah’s spirit was revived as his soul was refreshed and his body was renewed. Therefore, drawing from Psalm 19:7, which speaks of the Lord's flawless law that refreshes and restores the soul, we are provided space for our journey through the spiritual significance of soul-care.

In exploring the keys to soul-care, I am honored, blessed, and fortunate to have as my guest, Dominiece Clifton (https://movexstill.com/) (dom@movexstill.com). Dominiece is an entrepreneur and somatic practitioner, whose life 's work centers on prioritizing soul-care to achieve a more fulfilling, balanced life for herself and others. During this dynamic conversation, Dominiece vulnerably shares her own healing journey and emphasizes the importance of harmony in our lives. She has eloquently stated, “Wellness is the complete integration of body, mind, and spirit-the realization that everything we do, think, feel, and believe has an effect on our state of well-being.” Listen in as we delve into the transformative power of soul-care, allowing this conversation to settle deeply into your own soul, learning how to refresh your spirit and renew your body.
