  • What is Terraform?
    2023/05/25

In this episode we answer the question "what is terraform" in a simple, easy to understand way -- using the analogy of building a house. You'll learn about HCL -- HashiCorp Configuration Language -- and it's role in terraform. In addition, we answer the questions "what is infrastructure as code?" and "what is infrastructure?" It's one of the quickest and most succinct Tech Talk Simplified to date!

  • What is TensorFlow?
    2023/04/14

This week’s episode discusses TensorFlow, a popular open-source library developed by Google for machine learning and deep learning. TensorFlow provides developers with tools to represent and manipulate mathematical formulas, enabling them to build and train different types of neural networks, including convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and recurrent neural networks (RNNs). The library can be used for various AI applications, including image recognition, natural language processing, and recommendation systems. The podcast discusses how TensorFlow was used to develop AlphaGo, an AI-powered computer program that defeated the world champion of the board game Go in a five-game match. The podcast also provides an overview of CNNs and RNNs, two neural network methodologies used for image recognition and natural language processing, respectively. CNNs work by analyzing small pieces of an image to recognize patterns and identify objects in the image. RNNs process data one element at a time while maintaining a "memory" of the previous elements in the sequence, enabling them to recognize patterns in the sequence and make predictions based on that context. • What is Stable Diffusion? / How Does Text to Image Work?
    2023/03/26

In this episode we learn about the text to image creation process, also known as stable diffusion. Stable diffusion is the process of taking a blank space and adding noise to the blank space until the noise itself forms the desired image. Today’s video takes a good look at “how” stable diffusion enables text inputs to result in a digital image with no visual inputs.

In this episode we answer the following questions:

    1.     How are stable diffusion models trained?

    2.     How does stable diffusion create original images?

    3.     How does a stable diffusion model know what noise to put where to create the images?

    4.     What exactly is noise?

This episode is led by Wally Gustafson. The thoughts and opinions expressed in these videos are those of the presenters and their guests and do not represent the views of the organizations where they work.

  • What's a Neural Network?
    2023/03/04

In this episode, we learn about Neural Networks in simple, easy to understand terms. We break down how they work, how they function like the human brain, and review an analogy that will make them easy to understand.   In simple terms, a neural network is made up of multiple layers of “neurons” (or algorithms -- a fancy word for math formulas) that work together to solve a problem. Spend a few minutes and walk away a pseudo-neural network expert! This episode is led by Wally Gustafson.   #neuralnetwork #innovation #techsimplified

  • Natural Language Processing (NLP): Discussed with Guests Rob Corwin & Kahlil Wehmeyer from Austin Artificial Intelligence
    2023/02/27

In our first ever Tech Talk Discussed, we welcome Rob Corwin, Founder/CEO of Austin Artificial Intelligence, and Kahlil Wehmeyer, Sr. Data Scientist, Austin Artificial Intelligence. We spend time discussing NLP in general, including the inadequacies of "off the shelf" NLP models. We then discuss PoST -- the NLP search service that Innovation Tech Talk team and Austin AI partnered together to create. We talk about custom parts of speech, what was harder about the project than we imagined, and what we'd do differently if we did it again.

  • Natural Language Processing (NLP): Explained
    2023/02/26

In this edition of Tech Talk Explained, we explore 6 popular Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, provide multiple use cases, and real life examples. The techniques explained are: Tokenization, Keyword Extraction, Named-Entity Recognition, Summarization, Sentiment Analysis, and Parts of Speech Tagging. We then explore how the host and his team built a search service using Parts of Speech Tagging via custom parts of speech. We also enjoy the fact that host, Wally Gustafson, gave the entire presentation with lettuce on his teeth and has earned the nick name “lettuce boy”.
