ABOUT THIS MESSAGE:
Take a good, long look at the qualifications that are included for leaders in God’s church in our second reading today. They are qualifications that are not only applicable for leaders, but it is a call for godliness from all of God’s people, no matter what their role may be within the family of God. Paul says, “Great is the mystery of godliness!” We look at these qualifications and are left to say, “Who could attain to this?” Thanks be to God, the mystery is no longer. The mystery of this godliness has been made known in the gospel, the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ which is the only truth that sets people free. Christ’s church stands as a dispenser of this truth, no matter what specific task or position we may hold.
