If You're Fat...Lose Weight!

著者: Joel Abelson
  • サマリー

  • My name is Joel Abelson. I am a white Jew from the Bay Area. I went to Michigan for college, then started a minor league basketball coaching odyssey traveling all over this great country. I was a head coach by the time I was 29, and two year later I got engaged to my college sweetheart and on the literal day I proposed I got a job offer from the Knicks to work in their front office, it was fate, love and basketball even if it wasn’t coaching. Growing up my dear Mother always told me “Joely honey, you’re so special. You’re the most special person in the world.” My parents instilled me a sense of confidence but they were wrong. I’m not special. I personally am remarkably unspecial. I’m just a guy who likes to have interesting conversations with people I find interesting. Like I said at the top. I’m a white privileged Jew who grew up with every advantage and I’m TOTALLY comfortable discussing a wide range of hot button topics from my perspective. If you’re offended by that, good, don’t listen. Or maybe listen and you’ll learn something. Either way it’s all good.

  • Jeremy Antar: Why We Should Stop Comparing Generations
    2023/03/21
Welcome to the podcast, compadres! My production team told me to lay off the controversial episodes for a second, so I’m back with another sports-centric episode, this time with a guy whose body I simp hard for––Jeremy Antar!  Jeremy and I go way back––we were college roommates and he’s one of my greatest friends. He’s a sports fan scholar and a titan in the therapist community. I brought him on so we could vent and laugh about the sports things that don’t actually affect us, but we still find annoying.  Here’s what we explore this episode: The definition of being a winner (6:36) The greats of each generation and era (10:35) What annoys Jeremy about LeBron (20:12) How he would prevent tanking in the NBA (33:48) The thing that annoys Jeremy the most in broadcasts (39:21) His thoughts on Kyrie Irving (44:45) It was great having Jeremy on to talk about the things we find annoying about sports that don’t truly matter in life. Until next time.  Connect with Me: Instagram

  • Dan Dakich: Why Race-Baiting Sells
    2023/03/17
Welcome to the podcast, compadres! Today, I have Dan J. Dakich (1:10) on the show. He’s an anti-woke, says-what-he-thinks type of guy who has his own sports show, Don’t @ Me, on Outkick.  We talk about why he left coaching for broadcasting, why he left “stupid woke” ESPN for Outkick, and why racism sells in sports media. We also discuss why he thinks politics are a hot button item in sports and why he believes Biden is the worst president in his lifetime. (Hint: don’t say the word ‘inflation’ around him.). Stay tuned to find out the coolest thing Oliver's ever done, in the segment that's sweeping the nation, Rapid Fire with Oliver (51:10) Connect with Dan: Don’t @ Me Instagram Twitter

  • Ian Begley: The Most Handsomest Jew in Sports Media
    2023/03/14
Welcome to the podcast, compadres! Today I have the most handsome Jew in sports media: Ian Begley! If you’ve listened for any amount of time, you know I love to ask all my guests about their thoughts on Kyrie Irving and Ian was no exception. That being said, Ian had an interesting point of view because he’s also Jewish and he got to interview Kyrie after his anti-semetic film debacle.  Ian Begley decided in college to marry his love of sports with his newfound passion of journalism. After hopping around a bit, he landed on ESPN where he covered a lot of different sports, but he eventually landed at SNY where he predominately covers the Knicks. He’s a charismatic dude who knows how to cultivate long-term relationships and that has paid off nicely for him.  Here’s what we explore this episode: When Ian knew he wanted to get into sports media (2:14) Why Ian thinks the Knicks are the main team in Brooklyn (6:56) How Ian has cultivated sports relationships (11:22) You know I had to ask him about his interview with Kyrie Irving (31:10) Ian shares this thoughts on the way the Knicks have been playing (38:11) Interesting tidbits Ian has heard around the league (48:52) It was great to have Ian on the show and to be able to pick his brain about the way he has cultivated relationships throughout the years. Can’t wait to have him on again in the future.  Connect with Ian:  Instagram Twitter Connect with Me: Instagram
