  • Ep. 103: (Don't) Remake Die Hard
    2026/07/14

Hosts Dawn Kalani Cowle and Nick Joseph Carrillo return to discuss Hulu’s apocalyptic political thriller Paradise (starring Sterling K. Brown and James Marsden) and argue Hollywood should never remake Die Hard—except hypothetically, under extreme stakes. Inspired by Paradise’s Die Hard references, they recap Die Hard’s premise (John McClane, a New York cop visiting his estranged wife at a Christmas party in Nakatomi Plaza, battles Hans Gruber’s crew, who pose as terrorists but are actually thieves) and debate recasting and relocating the story.

Their dream “do not make” version stars Sterling K. Brown as McClane, Olivia Colman as a gender-swapped Hans Gruber, Matt Berry as the radio-side cop ally, Kerry Washington as Holly, Gwendoline Christie as the main henchperson, and Roy Kinnear as Ellis, set in London with discussion of UK policing differences and possible director Gareth Evans.

  • Ep. 102: Closer! An Origin Story.
    2026/07/07

Hosts Dawn Kalani Cowle and Nick Carillo share their origin story from the now-defunct College of Santa Fe, including the theater department tradition “Welcome the Hell,” where Dawn was designated driver, and Nick got very drunk, and how their friendship solidified when Dawn directed her senior project, Patrick Marber’s play “Closer,” casting Nick.

They pivot to imagining a 2026 “Closer” remake, debating casting and age ranges, landing on a final lineup of Jonathan Bailey as Dan, Oscar Isaac as Larry, Mikey Madison as Alice, and Jesse Buckley as Anna, directed by Chloé Zhao and adapted by Celine Song, updated with modern tech (a dating app instead of AOL) and possibly set in New York with an American healthcare/financial-support angle.

  • Ep. 101 - Jurassic Park! A Horror Story
    2026/07/07

In the inaugural episode of the podcast “I’d Watch That,” hosts Dawn Kalani Cowle and Nick Carrillo pitch a new take on the Jurassic Park franchise: a hard R-rated horror movie focused on mercenaries and scientists rather than shoehorned children.

Nick critiques later Jurassic entries (especially the forced family subplot) and cites the darker tone of Michael Crichton’s novel as inspiration for brutal, tense set pieces and gory dinosaur deaths. They brainstorm whether it stays within existing IP, settle on an R rating, and outline a plot involving a rescue/retrieval mission to an old research facility, corporate “big pharma” manipulation, and infighting amid dinosaur attacks.

They fan-cast key roles (including Jonathan Bailey, Regina Hall, and Regina King as sisters, Patrick Wilson or Walton Goggins as the villain, and other supporting mercenaries) and propose legacy cameos without killing core originals.
