  • Traumatika (2024) Review: Scary or Just Traumatic?
    2026/10/02

This week, The Coroner and Scream Queen dissect Traumatika (2024), a genre-hopping possession nightmare that turns childhood trauma into supernatural horror.

Young Mikey's night terrors become terrifyingly real when his mother begins showing signs of demonic possession, setting off consequences that stretch across generations. Directed by Pierre Tsigaridis, the filmmaker behind Two Witches, and co-written with Maxime Rancon, Traumatika had its world premiere at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest on August 24, 2024, before Saban Films brought it to U.S. theaters in 2025.

The Coroner digs into the film's nonlinear structure, aggressive POV camerawork, sound design, effects, and constant mutations between possession horror, slasher, and true-crime storytelling. The Scream Queen tackles the other half of the autopsy: whether the jump scares, disturbing imagery, demonic threat, and generational-trauma angle actually land in the gut. With Traumatika changing form so dramatically as it goes, there's more story-structure dissection than usual in this one.

They hand down their scores live.

Spoiler warning: Full spoilers after the Spoiler Bell, so watch the film first if you want to go in cold.

  • Obsession (2025) Review: Would You Wish for Love?
    2026/09/30

Welcome to the first episode of Brains & Blood, the horror film podcast where a technical critic and an everyday horror fan dissect one movie a week. This time, the Coroner and the Scream Queen take on Curry Barker's Obsession (2025).

A shy guy buys a cheap novelty toy and makes one wish: that the girl he loves will love him more than anyone else. It's a Monkey's Paw story for the dating-app generation. Barker, who came up through YouTube comedy and horror shorts, premiered the film at TIFF in September 2025, and it hit US theaters in May 2026.

The Coroner breaks down the filmmaking, from tone and pacing to the lead performances and the cringe-to-dread escalation. The Scream Queen brings the gut reaction: did it get under her skin, and did she look away? Then they hand down their scores live on the show.

Spoiler warning: This episode discusses the film in detail after the spoiler-free opening, so watch it first if you want to go in cold.

Film info: Obsession (2025) | Written and directed by Curry Barker | Starring Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter
