This week, The Coroner and Scream Queen dissect Traumatika (2024), a genre-hopping possession nightmare that turns childhood trauma into supernatural horror.
Young Mikey's night terrors become terrifyingly real when his mother begins showing signs of demonic possession, setting off consequences that stretch across generations. Directed by Pierre Tsigaridis, the filmmaker behind Two Witches, and co-written with Maxime Rancon, Traumatika had its world premiere at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest on August 24, 2024, before Saban Films brought it to U.S. theaters in 2025.
The Coroner digs into the film's nonlinear structure, aggressive POV camerawork, sound design, effects, and constant mutations between possession horror, slasher, and true-crime storytelling. The Scream Queen tackles the other half of the autopsy: whether the jump scares, disturbing imagery, demonic threat, and generational-trauma angle actually land in the gut. With Traumatika changing form so dramatically as it goes, there's more story-structure dissection than usual in this one.
They hand down their scores live.
Spoiler warning: Full spoilers after the Spoiler Bell, so watch the film first if you want to go in cold.
