Jim Drown survived a suicide attempt and says he saw visions of his future before waking two days later. The teenager who couldn’t imagine a future would go on to help take the gospel across Peru.

Recorded in Lima, Peru, Episode 20 of Encounterable brings Ben and Jodie Hughes together with Jim to hear the story behind nearly 25 years of evangelism. Jim recalls counting about 480 nights of crusades. In Peru alone, he estimates that he and Kathy have ministered in around 100 cities, with teams now multiplying the work.

From praying on street corners to projecting the Jesus film on a mountainside and organising mass gospel gatherings, Jim shares what it looks like to say yes to God before you have everything figured out.

Returning to Peru also meant returning to the place of his deepest heartbreak. Jim opens up about losing his daughter, experiencing spiritual abuse, and years of grief and bitterness. At 48, he describes a separate encounter in which he saw himself through Jesus’ eyes. It changed how he saw himself and gave him a desire to return to the country he’d sworn he would never visit again.

In this conversation:

• The visions of his future Jim says he experienced during those two days

• Finding Jesus at a tent meeting and beginning a radically different life

• Angelic encounters, glory clouds, and his translator’s account of walking into fire without being burned

• The machete attack that ended with his attackers kneeling to receive Jesus

• Worship, the Holy Spirit’s presence, and healing testimonies from the nations

• Jim’s part in the encounter that helped launch Pour It Out Ministries

• How a willingness to go grew into decades of evangelism across Peru and beyond

If you’ve wondered whether God could use your life, stay for the closing prayers for salvation and impartation. Jim prays for God’s love and power to flow through others and for them to become His hands, feet, and voice.

Tony Merkel, host of The Confessionals, is usually the one asking the questions. This time, we turn the tables and hear his own story.

From trying to walk away from his marriage to an encounter with Jesus at a funeral, Tony opens up about what shaped the man behind the microphone. He recounts the visit he describes as a Satanist’s trap, the spiritual oppression he says followed him for nine years, and his experience of deliverance.

As he retells that encounter, Tony makes a connection in real time and says, “That’s not in the book.” We also talk about the moments that drew him back to Jesus, how The Confessionals began, and what happens when the search for supernatural answers becomes more important than knowing God.

IN THIS CONVERSATION
• Tony’s childhood encounters with God and the importance of discipleship
• Marriage, forgiveness and a life-changing encounter with Jesus
• Tony’s account of spiritual warfare and deliverance
• Staying grounded in Christ while exploring the supernatural
• Answering the call to preach after years of running from it
