  • Glow Girl Dance Fitness with Ani and Jocelyn interview
    2021/10/23
"We're Ani and Jocelyn and dance fitness is our passion! We are located in the Washington, DC area also known as the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia).

We started Glow Girl Dance Fitness in 2019 as an outlet and to marry our love for dance and fitness. Our goal is to make dance fitness accessible and approachable; demystifying and making it fun! We fuse J-Sette, Twerk, and Zumba for a unique, one-of-a-kind fitness experience. Our classes are designed as a fitness class, but make it dance. It is high intensity, low impact. You'll move around and sweat without putting too much strain on your joints.

Ani has three years of college dance experience; specifically, J-Sette while she attended Saint Paul's College. Jocelyn danced in her high school dance team and in college at Delaware State University."

  • Pamela Chase of Hooked4U Interview
    2021/10/20
Pamela Chase is the Owner and Hooking Specialist with Hooked4U. She is the mother of two children and six grandchildren. Pamela stated: As long as I can remember, I have had a love for things creative. When I was a little girl, my mother taught me how to make doilies with the small steel needles (that is what we called hooks back then) and crochet thread. Who would have known that I would still be crocheting now? A few years later, an aunt taught me how to make hats using yarn and bigger hooks. Wow! From there I started making blankets and granny square bags from scratch and taught myself how to read patterns. That opened the door for sweaters and other items. As I got older, crocheting was not as consistent but it was still in my heart. When I started back, I was on a mission. One of my missions was to find like-minded people to crochet with and people with an interest to learn. I found that with my niece who I taught to make scarves and a coworker who on our lunch, learned to make hats. From childhood, I have wanted to be a teacher. That never happened but teaching others to crochet has fulfilled that desire. Others on the job wanted to learn or join me at lunch to crochet. I soon made myself available to make this possible. But with the demands of working in a government agency, it was a challenge getting together. I find crocheting to be healing and therapy as it has helped me through health, mental, and work issues. My goal is to meet as many people as I can to share my love of crocheting and I want to include males also. Society sees crochet as an old lady boring activity but I want to show that it can be attractive to people of different genders and ages.

  • Janna Willoughby-Lohr of Papercraft Miracles Interview
    2021/10/16
    Lets get to know Janna:
I am a poet, musician, visual artist and entrepreneur. My company, Papercraft Miracles, specializes in eco-friendly handmade paper art & gifts. We make magical things from paper that bring meaning to people's lives. I started my business while I was still in college in 2003 and ran it as a side gig for about 12 years.

In 2016, after I had my first son, I quit my full-time job to be at home with him and work on scaling my company and it took off quickly. Since then, I have built a team of skilled artisans and we have done custom projects for major companies such as Twitter.com and Capital One.

I won a $25,000 Ignite Grant for my company in a sharktank-style pitch competition in 2018, and in 2019 I was named 40-Under-40 for Stationery & Gifts from Stationery Trends Magazine.

I am very active in the entrepreneurial leadership space, helping other women to start and grow their own businesses and supporting them through their struggles. I am on the board and chair the membership committee for the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Buffalo/Niagara Chapter. I am also a founding member of the Diversity & Inclusion task force for our chapter, working actively to create a more ethnically and culturally diverse membership and to encourage all women business owners to be involved in leadership and decision-making for our chapter and beyond.

In addition, I have a podcast called Reach the Stars Podcast which is a collection of conversations with cool people who do cool things. We bring inspiring stories of persistence, passion and purpose as a way to help others feel connected and learn resiliency skills so they can overcome obstacles on the way to their own dreams.

I have been performing poetry and music publicly for over 25 years and have shared stages with a wide range of other performers from 10,000 Maniacs to Beats Antique.

During my junior year of college, I lost my mother, my dorm burnt to the ground with all my things in it and then the school cut my financial aid for my senior year. I managed to finish school in four years with a 3.9 GPA, despite this extremely traumatic time.
