Fed up with "monobosom," Caresse Crosby (aka Mary Phelps Jacobs/Polly Jacobs) received the first U.S. patent for the "brassiere" in early November of 1914. She also ghostwrote , founded the press that published Bukowski, & had a dog named "Clytoris."
