  • 56: Rid Yourself of Ruining Idols (Isaiah 2:18-22)
    2025/12/15

    Isaiah 2:18-22

and the idols will totally disappear. People will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from the fearful presence of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth. In that day people will throw away to the moles and bats their idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made to worship. They will flee to caverns in the rocks and to the overhanging crags from the fearful presence of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth. Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?

The Day of the Lord, a time when God intervenes decisively to judge human pride and false security, is God’s action to rid people of their idols. Idols are false, empty things or people we trust in. God brings judgment to free us and bring us back to His mountain, putting our whole trust in the Lord. So rid yourself of the idols that ruin you and turn your trust to God.

  • 55: Are You Willing? (Acts 26:5)
    2025/12/09

    Acts 26:5
They have known for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest party of our religion I have lived as a Pharisee.

Paul argues that his life and actions have been know and straight forward to the Jews and the people to whom he has proclaimed the gospel. God’s truth is available, even evident. God is presenting the truth to us, even from his disciples. The question is, are you willing to take a very good look at the truth and the facts? Are you willing to examine seriously what God is showing you? If you face the truth, you should surrender to Christ.

  • 54: Place Your Hands On the Sacrifice (Leviticus 4:29)
    2025/12/01

    Leviticus 4:29

And he shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and kill the sin offering in the place of burnt offering.

This passage details the process of the Israelites dealing with sin and their broken relationship with God. A person would go to the temple with his or her sacrifice and place his or her hand on the animal to be sacrificed. The ownership of one’s sin is emphasized in this process. The sinner must say, “This animal is dying in my place of me and for my sin.” That is what the process should be for us as we bring our sins to Jesus Christ.

  • 53: Why Are You Weeping (John 20:15-16)
    2025/11/24

    John 20:15-16
15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).

Mary goes back to the tomb after they discovered that Jesus was not in the tomb, and she and the other women had told the disciples. Mary goes back to the tomb to weep. She is broken. She was broken on Friday, when Jesus died. Now she is weeping. And Jesus meets her in the weeping and brokenness. He lets her go into that brokenness. Out of that brokenness, when Jesus reveals himself, she is changed and overwhelmed by Jesus. That is what God wants to do with us.

  • 52: Why Paul Lives For Jesus (Acts 22:6-7)
    2025/11/17

    Acts 22:6-7

6 “As I was on my way and drew near to Damascus, about noon a great light from heaven suddenly shone around me. 7 And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’

Paul gives his testimony to the Jews who have beaten him. Paul says, “I am zealous for the Law, for God. And Jesus met me. What else could I do but follow Jesus?” Paul says, “What would you have done?” His testimony is for us. Paul uses every opportunity to witness. And he explains his reason for his passionate following after Jesus. We should hear his reasons and be as passionate as Paul is for Jesus.

  • 51: Shall I Not Drink the Cup (John 18:11)
    2025/11/10

    John 18:11

11 So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”

Jesus corrects the sword-wielding Peter with this line, “Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?” Jesus is saying, “Peter, you are fighting to keep me from obedience, from doing this hard task that God has for me. Stop it. I am committed to the Father’s will and obedience.” The same should be true of us. We need to quit fighting against what God has for us, sometimes painful things. But we must first be committed to the Father’s will and obedience, just like Jesus.

  • 50: Is It I? (Mark 14:19)
    2025/11/03

    Mark 14:19

19 They began to be sorrowful and to say to him one after another, “Is it I?”

Jesus tells the disciples that one of them will betray him. Each of them asks the question, one after another, what we too should be ready to ask Jesus. “Is it I?” Will I be the one who will betray you? We should be on our guard and get Jesus' help, even beg him for help so that we stay right with Jesus.

  • 49: Obey Passionately without Excuses (Mark 12:33) - Hearing God in Scripture
    2025/10/27

    Mark 12:33

And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

Jesus points out the greatest commandments to this scholar who comes and asks a legitimate question. Jesus raises the bar, saying, “I don’t want your sacrifices, I want your obedience.” Love God fully, passionately, and love your neighbor out of that beautiful love of God. Don’t make any excuses for disobedience.
