  • Episode 12: Season 1 done, No Filters & Definitely Not a Fad
    2025/05/28

We made it to the end of Season 1! In this episode, Kristy and Courtney reflect on the not-so-smooth (but hilarious) journey of launching a podcast and celebrating 10 years of @ The Barre in the heart of London, Ontario—a university town with Western and Fanshawe energy, but big-town vibes.

We chat about the Pilates boom: new studios are opening, TikTok is obsessed, and yes, some of them are aesthetic goals. But we’re not here for perfect lighting and selfies—we built our studio to feel like walking into Kristy’s house: real, relaxed, and zero pressure to look put together. No ring lights, no reels—just movement, conversation, and community.

We dive into the differences between Pilates, Lagree, and the fads, and why we believe in sustainability over spectacle.
Also: Courtney’s Toronto-based son stands out when he visits London (apparently, the fashion divide is real), and we get nostalgic over driving in the '90s with no seatbelts and sketchy directions.

We also ask the important questions:

    * Is midlife memory loss normal?

    * Can we get “I survived the ’70s” t-shirts?

    * Did Gen X peak with in-person conversations and street smarts?

Spoiler: Probably yes to all three.

💗 Thank you for being part of our first season. This is Heard @ The Barre.

  • Episode 11: Shoutouts, Lululemon & Snacks
    2025/05/21

Ever wondered how a Pilates class turns into a love letter to local businesses? Kristy’s teaching style is basically storytime with squats—so naturally, restaurants, brands, and random gems get name-dropped mid-exercise. From Indian head massages to Craig’s Cookies, if it keeps her going, it’s getting a shoutout.

Courtney dives into the gluten-free scene for all the Celiac friends out there, and we officially send love to Dos Tacos for fueling Kristy through… well, everything.

Also: Courtney’s a proud Lululemon Sweat Collective member and was asked to review the No Line, Align (spoiler: she has loves the new design). We’re ready to try more stuff and give more love, so if you’re a local brand or business—slide into our DMs.

💬 Let us help you help us give you a shoutout.

P.S. We're proudly based in Downtown London, Ontario—and yes, there’s free parking right out front.

Because that’s how we roll @ The Barre.

  • Episode 9: Pap Smears, Pencil Cases & Uncomfortable Conversations
    2025/05/08

Our favourite client and hardcore fan, Kerry, is back—and things get real. From learning about pap smears at the studio (yes, really) to opening up about growing up Asian in a culture where feelings and sex education weren’t openly discussed, this episode dives into the conversations we wish we’d had sooner.

Kristy reflects on childhood confessions in the Roman Catholic church, and we all laugh about those unforgettable moments when kids trap their parents in the car to ask the big questions. Think: tampons, periods, and those infamous Beaver Canoe/Kettle Creek pencil cases that were never used for pencils.

Also covered: retroverted and heart-shaped uteruses, 'Mean Girls'-style sex ed (“Don’t get pregnant or you’ll die”), and Kerry’s son Oscar, who inherited just enough redhead energy from his dad to keep things interesting.

Trigger warning: Includes discussion of miscarriage, pregnancy, and ectopic pregnancy.

  • Episode 8: Sandwich Generation, Teen Cats & 90s Courtship
    2025/05/05

This week, Kristy and Courtney get personal as they dive into what it means to be GenX in the sandwich generation—caring for kids, aging parents, and even grandparents, all at once. Courtney opens up about the loss of her dad and the emotional toll of juggling three generations of caregiving. (Spoiler: her 101-year-old grandma swears the secret to long life is avoiding men and their stress.)

They also explore how parenting shifts over time—babies are like dogs, teens are like cats, and then after university, back to dogs again. Add in a dose of ‘90s nostalgia around dating, marriage expectations, and how social media has warped what we think relationships should look like today. Plus, a quick PSA: the frontal lobe finally finishes developing in your mid-20s.

Trigger warning: This episode includes discussion of alcoholism, cancer, and the loss of a parent.

  • Episode 7: Stalking, Concussions & Cool Girl Pilates Vibes
    2025/05/02

This week, Kristy and Courtney welcome their first-ever guest to the podcast—Kerry! After a concussion and a refusal to rest (classic move), Kerry followed a coworker straight to @ The Barre in search of exercise and community. What started as a little harmless “studio stalking” turned into a whole lot more.

Kerry brings the stories—from assuming Courtney was a cool, mean Pilates girl (which led to Courtney avoiding the Thursday 5:30 class) to confessing her habit of always picking the same reformer so she can count on the marks on the wall to help with spotting. The trio also jokes about making “unauthorized” studio changes without the “board’s approval” (spoiler: there is no real board).

It’s all about how rules get bent, friendships form, and the studio becomes more than just a workout space.

  • Episode 6: Finding Connection & Community @ The Barre
    2025/04/29

In this episode, Kristy and Courtney talk about the power of building community—especially within the walls of @ The Barre. As we get older, our social circles tend to shrink, and remote work has only made it harder to connect. No more water cooler talk, hallway catch-ups, or casual small talk… and women are feeling the gap.

They reflect on how personal changes can shift your social energy, the importance of face-to-face interactions (and yes—hugs), and why type A personalities keep showing up at the studio and then fully handing over the reins (Kristy’s favourite). It’s honest, heartfelt, and a reminder that real connection still matters.

Warning: Not a class ad. Phones do ring. We are still very much human.

  • Episode 5: Social Media, Teens & the Algorithm That Hears Everything
    2025/04/28

Courtney and Kristy are back, diving into how social media has changed the way we connect—especially with our teens. From Snapchat “relationships” and fake-perfect Instagram lives to whether GenX is better suited for DMs or phone calls (remember those?), they unpack the weird world of digital communication.

They also touch on the not-so-virtual fallout of the pandemic—how COVID rules and differing opinions created real-life rifts between friends and families. Plus, does TikTok really listen to your conversations and serve you videos accordingly? They're pretty sure it does... and they’ve got stories.

It’s part tech talk, part therapy, and totally Heard @ The Barre.
