  • Motel Hell vs. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation | Hard to Watch Halloween Special
    2026/10/31

Farmer Vincent’s “fritters” or McConaughey’s robot leg? 🎃 For our Halloween Special, host Alex Parker and filmmaker Justin Peery tackle two of the weirdest, gnarliest cult horror flicks ever made: Motel Hell (1980) and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994). One has a chainsaw duel and heads planted in a garden. The other has Matthew McConaughey and Renée Zellweger before they became Oscar winners.

Filmed live at Fratelli’s Pizza in Redding, California. Only one of these movies might be good, and we argue about which.

    🔪 IN THIS EPISODE
Motel Hell: Rory Calhoun, Wolfman Jack, John Ratzenberger and a $3 million budget that doubled at the box office
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation: the $600,000 budget, McConaughey’s “all right, all right, all right,” Zellweger’s scream-queen workout and a very unhelpful corsage
Rotten Tomatoes showdown: Motel Hell scores 63%, The Next Generation scores 15%
Why the Motel Hell script got so dark that Tobe Hooper nearly directed it
A movie so bad its stars’ agent reportedly blocked the release
Physical media, Arrow and Shout! Factory, and Dead by Daylight

  • Neil Breen’s Fateful Findings vs. The Philadelphia Experiment (2012) | Hard to Watch with Guest Tyler Lockamy
    2026/10/14

Hackers with mystical powers, a black cube, five laptops that are never turned on, and a naval destroyer that shows up in the sky over Chicago. This week on Hard to Watch, host Alex Parker takes on two seriously strange sci-fi flicks with a guest who came ready to win.

Tyler Lockamy, film liaison for Shasta and Tehama counties, brings “the apex predator of Hard to Watch”: Neil Breen’s cult-classic Fateful Findings (2012). Alex fires back with the 2012 Philadelphia Experiment remake, starring Malcolm McDowell. One film has a rabid midnight-movie following, the other aired on the Sci-Fi channel, and both have plenty to mock.

    In this episode:

    • Fateful Findings: Neil Breen writes, directs, stars and (almost) caters, on a reported $5,000 budget
    • Why Breen’s “outsider cinema” might be important cinema after all
    • The 2012 Philadelphia Experiment: wrong jets, Dutch tilts everywhere, and a flux capacitor wink
    • Malcolm McDowell delivering the goods in a movie that doesn’t deserve him
    • The real USS Eldridge legend, and why the original 1984 film is worth your time
    • Plus a first look at the Sinister Sundial Film Festival at the Riverfront Playhouse in Redding, CA, and the Sundial Film Festival coming February 2027

  • Michael Caine’s Worst Paychecks: On Deadly Ground & Jaws: The Revenge | Hard to Watch Movie Reviews
    2026/10/14

Steven Seagal on acid in a cave full of nude women. A heat-seeking shark with a grudge against one family. Michael Caine in both. This week on Hard to Watch, host Alex Parker and documentary filmmaker John Stinson of Catbird Seat Productions watch two of the most baffling movies of their decades: On Deadly Ground (1994) and Jaws: The Revenge (1987).

    In this episode:
🔥 Why Seagal directed, produced and (mostly) wrote On Deadly Ground, and how a Clint Eastwood script became a Greenpeace recruitment film
🦈 How Michael Caine pocketed $1 million for about ten days of work on Jaws: The Revenge, missed the Oscars for Hannah and Her Sisters, and bought his mother a house with the money
🎬 The bar fight, the slap fight, the bad ADR, the changing hair dye and the horse jump off a (painted?) cliff
🗣️ Seagal’s 40-minute environmental speech, cut to 7 minutes after a preview audience booed
🌴 A Christmas shark movie set in the Bahamas, with a questionable Jamaican accent and a very confusing ending
🍿 Which movie is the better date-night test

Rotten Tomatoes scores, budgets, behind-the-scenes trivia and plenty of jokes at the movies’ expense.

  • Sinister Sundial Blood Red Carpet LIVE | Horror Film Festival Redding, CA | Hard to Watch Podcast
    2026/10/09

Grab your fake blood and your free hotel soap, because Hard to Watch went LIVE on the Blood Red Carpet at the very first Sinister Sundial Film Festival at the Riverfront Playhouse in Redding, CA! 🩸🔪

Host Alex Parker (in a questionable hospital gown) and Coffee with Colleen’s Colleen De Silva took over the carpet to interview costumed guests, filmmakers, artists, and festival creators. They asked the questions that really matter: Are you Fred, Daphne, Velma, or Shaggy? And in a horror movie, would you be the final girl or the first to die?

    On the carpet:

🎬 Tyler Lockamy, the mastermind behind Sinister Sundial, on bringing a true genre film festival to Redding

🏆 Mike Morgan of Morgan Designs, who 3D resin-printed the festival’s blood-red film canister and knife trophies (40 hours each!)

🔪 Matt Briner, the designer behind the festival logo, on butcher knives and Terminator 2 inspiration

🎥 Filmmakers, behind-the-scenes shooters, and local creators, including director Taunya Gren and Redding Creators

🧛 Costumed attendees, a prom king, a wounded alien, and plenty of Shaggys

🧼 Door prizes: Ivory hotel soap and, for the final guest, nasal spray that expired in 2024

Plus horror fun facts, favorite scary movies (Get Out, Nope, Basket Case, and Backrooms), movie-festival hot takes, and a sneak peek at a horror-comedy about a multi-level marketing cabin getaway gone very wrong.

Hard to Watch is the movie podcast about films so bad they’re hard to watch. Every other Tuesday, Alex and a guest each pick a movie and break down just how rough it is.

  • The Last Unicorn (1982) & Follow That Bird (1985): Kids' Movies That Are Hard to Watch with Guest Colleen De Silva
    2026/09/28

Warning: this episode contains a pirate cat that no one can explain, a butterfly scene that lasts approximately forever, and Cookie Monster eating a car. Welcome to Hard to Watch!

Host Alex Parker sits down with actress, writer, director, and mom Colleen De Silva to put two 80s "kids' movies" on trial: The Last Unicorn (1982) and Sesame Street Presents: Follow That Bird (1985). Colleen watched both with her three-year-old, whose review of the soft-rock soundtrack was basically "Mama, this song will be over soon, right?" Honestly, same.

    What we get into:

    • Why a unicorn movie scored by the band America (yes, "A Horse with No Name") was a very strange choice
    • The G-rated moments that felt oddly grown-up, and a voice cast stacked with Angela Lansbury, Mia Farrow, Jeff Bridges, and Christopher Lee
    • Follow That Bird's one-liners, the tossed salad scene, that suddenly-it's-Lethal-Weapon car chase, and cameos from Chevy Chase, John Candy, Dave Thomas, Joe Flaherty, and Waylon Jennings
    • Why both movies had our guest bored (and one of us nodding off before the end)
    • A filmmaker's take on what makes a movie feel off, from mouths that don't move to jokes that stall the story

Colleen also shares what she's working on: her talk show Coffee with Colleen, a feature film in development, and her role in the short film Another Life.

Every episode, a guest picks a movie, Alex picks one to match, and together they figure out why they're hard to watch. Some episodes get heavy. This one gets a pirate cat.

  • Raw (2016) & Titane (2021) with Cory De Silva
    2026/09/11

Host Alex Parker sits down with guest Cory De Silva for the inaugural Hard to Watch as they dive into Julia Ducournau’s two most unhinged films — the cannibal coming-of-age nightmare Raw and the Palme d’Or-winning body-horror fever dream Titane. Expect unfiltered reactions, dark laughs, and the kind of conversation that happens when two people refuse to look away. This is Creators Co. TV’s first official trip into movies that hurt a little.
