  • Secretary Deb Haaland [re-release]
    2025/11/28

To mark Native American Heritage Day, we're revisiting this 2023 episode with Secretary Deb Haaland.

It’s a time to honor the history, traditions, and enduring contributions of Indigenous peoples across the country. Few leaders have embodied that heritage more powerfully than Deb Haaland, who made history as the first Native American cabinet secretary. During her time as Secretary of the Interior, she brought Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into conservation policy. She confronted the injustices of our past, including the American Indian residential schools, by bringing survivors and their descendants together to share their stories. She insisted that those most affected by climate decisions have a voice in shaping them, and that we all share an obligation to safeguard our lands for future generations.

In revisiting this episode, we celebrate her example of leadership, empathy, and good citizenship.
