  • 1 Peter 5 | On Christian Leadership

What does 1 Peter 5 teach about Christian leadership?
How can I cast my anxieties on God?
What does it mean that Satan prowls like a roaring lion?
How do humility and faith work together in resisting the devil?
What promise does God give to suffering believers in 1 Peter 5?

In this episode of God’s Plan, Your Part, we dive into 1 Peter 5, the final chapter of Peter’s first letter, where he closes with powerful instructions for both leaders and believers. Peter exhorts elders to shepherd the flock of God with humility, integrity, and eagerness—not for selfish gain or control, but as examples of Christlike leadership. He reminds us that when the Chief Shepherd appears, faithful leaders will receive an unfading crown of glory.

For all believers, Peter calls us to humility, urging us to clothe ourselves with grace-filled attitudes toward one another. He gives a profound reminder: God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. A core truth in this passage is that we are to cast all our anxieties on God because He cares for us. Worry, Peter explains, is a subtle form of pride that assumes control lies in our hands instead of His.

Peter also warns that Satan prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Yet, the command is simple: resist him, stand firm in faith, and remember that Christians all over the world share in these same struggles. Our strength comes not from fear, but from trust in God’s promises.

This chapter ends with encouragement: after suffering for a little while, the God of all grace will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish His people. No matter the trial, our hope is secure in Christ, and He alone carries ultimate dominion forever.

We also reflect on modern-day persecution, especially among Christians in Nigeria, who model what it means to stand firm in faith even in the midst of intense suffering. Their witness challenges us to live boldly and pray faithfully for our global brothers and sisters.

Join us as we uncover how 1 Peter 5 still speaks directly into our lives today—whether you’re leading, struggling with worry, or learning to resist the enemy.

  • 1 Peter 4 | Christians Shouldn’t Be Surprised by Suffering
    2025/10/02

    Send us a text

Christians are called to live differently, and in 1 Peter 4 we see a powerful reminder that following Jesus means embracing a life set apart. Peter makes it clear that believers should not return to old habits, sinful lifestyles, or the empty pleasures of the world. Instead, we are to live for the will of God, walking in holiness, and using our spiritual gifts to glorify Him. This episode emphasizes the tension between living in a culture that mocks faith and the call to live faithfully no matter the cost.

A major theme in this chapter is suffering. Peter explains that trials and persecution are not accidents, but part of the Christian journey. We should not be surprised when hardships come, but instead view them as an opportunity to share in Christ’s sufferings. In fact, he calls suffering for Christ a blessing because it shows God’s Spirit rests on us. This flips the world’s perspective, reminding us that difficulty for Christ’s sake is actually evidence of His presence and work in our lives.

Another highlight of 1 Peter 4 is Peter’s teaching on spiritual gifts. Every believer has received a gift from God, and those gifts are meant to be used to serve others and build up the church. Speaking, serving, leading, encouraging—each of these is only effective when done in the strength that God provides. The episode emphasizes that our call is not to sit back, but to engage fully with the gifts God has entrusted to us. When we live this way, people around us see Christ through us.

Peter also encourages believers to live with urgency: “The end of all things is near.” That means sober-mindedness, self-control, and above all, love. Love covers a multitude of sins, and hospitality reflects the heart of Christ. In a world full of selfishness and division, this is the radical difference Christians are called to embody—loving deeply, serving faithfully, and glorifying God with every action.

The final verses remind us to entrust our souls to God as a faithful Creator. Even in persecution, God is purifying His people, shaping us to look more like Christ. When believers embrace suffering as part of God’s refining work, it changes everything. Instead of discouragement, there’s joy in knowing that God is making us holy and using our lives for eternal purposes. This chapter calls us to boldness, faithfulness, and endurance, knowing that God is always trustworthy and His glory will be revealed.

  • 1 Peter 3 | Marriage, Modesty, and Suffering Well
    2025/10/01

    Send us a text

The third chapter of 1 Peter gives us both a practical and spiritual challenge. Peter begins with instructions for husbands and wives, showing that Christian households are to reflect Christ’s character in their conduct. Wives are encouraged to live in a way that draws even unbelieving husbands to faith through their quiet strength and godly character. Husbands are called to honor their wives as co-heirs of grace, recognizing the deep spiritual consequences of neglecting or dishonoring them. Peter’s teaching reveals God’s design for complementarity and order in the family, grounded in mutual honor and respect.

The chapter then transitions into the call to live differently in a hostile world. Instead of lashing out when wronged, Christians are urged not to repay evil with evil but to respond with blessing. This countercultural approach reflects the way of Jesus, who suffered unjustly yet offered forgiveness. Peter emphasizes that this type of response not only glorifies Christ but also provides a powerful testimony to unbelievers, highlighting the hope within us.

One of the central themes here is suffering for righteousness’ sake. Peter reminds his readers that while suffering for doing wrong is expected, suffering for doing good is a mark of true discipleship. Followers of Jesus are called to be ready to give a defense for their faith with gentleness and respect, showing the world that their hope is anchored in Christ. This posture of readiness is essential for Christians navigating an unbelieving culture.

Peter also addresses baptism, clarifying its symbolic role. He ties it to Noah’s flood, making it clear that baptism itself does not save but points to salvation through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Baptism is the outward sign of an inward transformation, a public appeal to God for a clean conscience. This protects readers from confusing ritual with redemption and keeps the focus squarely on Christ as the one who saves.

Ultimately, 1 Peter 3 is about living out a radical, Christ-centered conduct both in our families and in the wider world. Whether through godly marriages, forgiving enemies, suffering well, or testifying to the hope of the gospel, Christians are called to embody a life that points directly to Jesus. In a culture of conflict and self-promotion, this passage challenges us to embrace humility, honor, and holiness as our witness.

  • 1 Peter 2 | Living as God’s People in a Dark World
    2025/09/30

    Send us a text

Peter’s words in 1 Peter 2 give a powerful picture of what it means to live as God’s people in the midst of a world that does not follow Him. He calls believers to long for spiritual nourishment the way a newborn baby craves milk, reminding us that true growth only comes from God’s Word and His Spirit. This isn’t about staying immature in faith but about cultivating a hunger that leads to maturity and strength in Christ. The call is clear: crave righteousness, holiness, and truth with intensity.

Peter then introduces the image of “living stones,” built together into a spiritual house with Christ Himself as the cornerstone. He declares that those who follow Jesus are now a chosen race, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation. These titles—once reserved for Israel—are now applied to the church. In Christ, believers from every nation are unified into one people called out of darkness and into God’s marvelous light. This is not just identity, but mission: to proclaim the excellencies of the One who has shown us mercy.

From identity flows action. Peter urges Christians to abstain from sinful passions that wage war on the soul and to live honorable lives among unbelievers. Even when accused or slandered, our integrity and good deeds should shine so clearly that others are drawn to glorify God. In a culture quick to fight back, Peter’s call is radical—respond to hostility with holiness, and let your life point people to Christ.

Peter also addresses how believers should live under authority. Even in the context of a corrupt Roman government, Christians were to submit to governing authorities as far as conscience allowed, honoring leaders without compromising obedience to God. This requires discernment: like Daniel and the apostles, we obey God when human authorities command otherwise. But the general posture is humility, respect, and a willingness to suffer if necessary.

Finally, Peter points us back to Jesus, who suffered unjustly yet entrusted Himself to the Father. He bore our sins, making it possible for us to die to sin and live in righteousness. By His wounds, we are healed. Just as sheep stray and return to their shepherd, we return to Christ, our overseer. The chapter closes with hope: even in suffering, we walk in the footsteps of Jesus, shining His light in a dark world.

  • 1 Peter 1 | Roll Up Your Sleeves: Living Holy in a Broken World
    2025/09/29

    Send us a text

Peter opens his first letter with a message of hope, identity, and perseverance in Christ. Written near the end of his life, 1 Peter 1 reminds believers that though they are scattered like exiles, their true citizenship is in heaven. Peter emphasizes that God has chosen His people, not because of anything they have done, but because of His great mercy.

One of the most powerful truths in this passage is the reminder that salvation is entirely God’s work. Peter makes it clear that God initiates, calls, and secures His people through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Believers are “born again to a living hope,” guarded by God’s power, even as they endure trials that refine their faith. This tension of suffering and joy is woven throughout the chapter, showing us that hardships are not meaningless—they are the very means by which God shapes us into Christlikeness.

At the same time, Peter doesn’t allow Christians to remain passive. Because God has called and secured them, they are commanded to “prepare their minds for action,” living holy and obedient lives in all their conduct. Just as God is holy, His people are to reflect His holiness. Faith is not meant to be lived in isolation or convenience but in active pursuit of holiness, set apart from sinful desires and worldly distractions. This makes the message of 1 Peter 1 both challenging and deeply practical for modern believers.

Ultimately, 1 Peter 1 reminds us that while life here is temporary, God’s Word and promises remain forever. Just as grass withers and flowers fall, everything in this world fades. But the hope secured through Jesus Christ never fades. This perspective reshapes how believers face trials, how they live in daily obedience, and how they love others. In a world full of distractions and struggles, Peter’s words are both a challenge and an encouragement: roll up your sleeves, pursue holiness, and live in the joy of your eternal inheritance.

  • James 5 | Warning the Rich & Encouraging the Faithful
    2025/09/26

    Send us a text

What does James 5 teach about wealth and faith?

How should Christians respond to suffering and persecution?

What does “let your yes be yes” mean in James 5?

Why does James use Elijah as an example of prayer?

How does James 5 call believers to accountability in the church?

James 5 is a powerful conclusion to a very practical and challenging letter. James begins this chapter with a sobering warning to the wealthy who trust in riches rather than God. He makes it clear that earthly possessions fade away and cannot bring true fulfillment. Instead, misplaced hope in wealth only brings judgment. This sharp rebuke reminds listeners of the danger of trusting in material things rather than in Christ.

After addressing the rich, James turns back to encourage believers who were struggling under persecution and hardship. He calls them to patience and endurance, urging them to look to the prophets and to Job as examples of steadfastness in suffering. James’ message is timeless—Christians today also face trials, and this call to remain faithful reminds us that God is compassionate and merciful even in difficult seasons.

James highlights the importance of integrity, telling believers to let their “yes” be yes and their “no” be no. This echoes Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount and underscores the need for followers of Christ to be people of honesty and truth. In a world where compromise and half-truths abound, James urges Christians to live lives marked by integrity that honor God.

One of the most practical and encouraging sections in James 5 is the call to prayer. Whether in suffering, joy, or sickness, James directs believers to respond by turning to God. He points to Elijah as an example of powerful prayer, showing that ordinary people who faithfully seek God can experience extraordinary results. Prayer, confession, and community are presented as vital parts of a healthy and faithful Christian life.

James ends his letter abruptly yet missionally—reminding believers of their responsibility to call back those who wander from the truth. He emphasizes the importance of accountability, restoration, and discipleship within the body of Christ. This closing challenge makes it clear that living out our faith isn’t only personal—it’s communal. We are called to strengthen one another, hold each other accountable, and walk faithfully with endurance until Christ’s return.

  • James 4 | A Warning Against Worldliness and Living with Eternal Purpose
    2025/09/25

    Send us a text

What does James 4 mean by “friendship with the world”?

How can Christians draw near to God?

Why does James call life a “mist that vanishes”?

What does it mean that failing to do the right thing is sin?

How can believers resist the devil in daily life?

James 4 delivers one of the most pointed and challenging messages in the New Testament. In this chapter, James directly confronts believers with the reality that friendship with the world equals enmity with God. This bold declaration calls Christians to examine where their loyalties truly lie and to live lives set apart for Christ. Listeners are reminded that the tension they feel between worldly desires and spiritual devotion is not new—it has always been the battleground for the soul.

The chapter highlights how selfish passions fuel conflict and division among believers. Quarrels, envy, and slander break down Christian community and distract from the mission of God’s kingdom. James makes it clear that these behaviors are not minor issues but symptoms of hearts straying from God’s authority. This warning speaks just as loudly today, where division and gossip can easily derail the body of Christ from its true purpose.

At the heart of James 4 is a profound promise: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” This simple but powerful truth assures believers that intimacy with God is available to anyone willing to humble themselves, repent, and pursue Him wholeheartedly. Spiritual closeness isn’t accidental—it’s the result of intentional submission to God’s will, resisting the devil, and walking in obedience.

James also challenges the arrogance of planning life apart from God. Boasting about tomorrow is foolish, because life is a mist that quickly vanishes. Instead, believers are called to live with the constant awareness that God directs their days and that everything they do must be surrendered to His will. This perspective reshapes priorities, urging Christians to use their time for God’s purposes rather than wasting it on worldly pursuits.

Finally, James ends the chapter with a piercing truth: “Whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” This verse moves beyond sins of commission to include sins of omission. The call is not just to avoid wrong but to actively do what is right. For modern believers, this means living as lights in a dark world, pursuing unity in the church, and boldly reflecting God’s love in every area of life.

  • James 3 | Why Words Matter: Biblical Wisdom for Daily Life
    2025/01/28

    Send us a text

James 3 delves into the immense power of words and the challenge of taming the tongue. Using vivid imagery, James compares the tongue to a horse’s bit, a ship’s rudder, and a spark that ignites a forest fire, emphasizing its disproportionate impact. While small, the tongue holds the potential for both immense blessing and great destruction, making it a vital area for self-discipline in the Christian walk. James warns against using the same mouth to bless God and curse others, particularly since all people are made in God's likeness.

In the latter part of the chapter, James shifts focus to the heart’s posture, cautioning against jealousy and selfish ambition. These attitudes lead to disorder and evil practices, contrasting sharply with the pure, peaceable, and gentle wisdom that comes from God. He encourages believers to embrace wisdom that produces humility, unity, and a harvest of righteousness.

The chapter’s practical applications resonate deeply with both first-century and modern audiences. In our current age of instant communication, James’ exhortations feel particularly relevant. The misuse of words—whether through gossip, harsh criticism, or careless comments—can cause lasting harm to relationships and the church’s witness. Instead, believers are called to be peacemakers, sowing seeds of righteousness through speech that reflects God’s character.

James 3 also addresses the importance of consistency in faith. Just as a spring cannot produce both fresh and salt water, Christians cannot simultaneously speak blessings and curses. This analogy challenges us to pursue holistic faith, where words and actions align with God’s wisdom. The chapter ends with a call to humility, urging believers to rely on God for the strength to tame their tongues and live out their faith with integrity.

Ultimately, James 3 reminds us that while taming the tongue is a daunting task, it is essential for living a life that glorifies God. By seeking wisdom from above and striving to honor others with our words, we reflect the transformative power of the gospel in our lives and communities.
