  • Gathered & Scattered: Blessed or Blessed?
    2026/09/01

Is it blessed or blessed? I never know how to say it...Let's figure it out today.

For three weeks we’ve primed the pump on Jesus gathering folks by looking at what he did before he ever gathered anyone on his own, why he wanted to gather with other folks, and the kinds of spaces he created for folks to gather. Now it’s time to actually look at Jesus convening a gathering and then scattering those folks into the world.

For the next few weeks, we’re going to look at half a dozen or so examples of Jesus gathering and scattering folks. And we’ll do it by looking at the first and last gatherings he has with folks in each gospel. First up: Matthew.

    Matthew 5:1-12

  • Gathered & Scattered: Lawn Church
    2026/08/25

Here we are with another episode of Gathered and Scattered, our look at how Jesus brought people together and sent them out into the world in hopes of answering this question that’s been gnawing at me for years:

    What’s the point of church?

Despite my admission that I’m a terrible evangelist in last week’s episode, I do want to invite to join my family and a few others as we begin to gather in person and give some shape to a community that we hope will echo more closely the one we see Jesus building with his disciples. We’ll begin meeting on Sunday, September 13 at 5:00pm at the Blackbird Creative Studio in downtown Laurel at Union Hall. The more the merrier. Drop me a message if you have any questions!

Boy in the Temple: Luke 2:41-52
    Nazareth: Luke 4:18-21
Cleansing: Matthew 21:12–13, Mark 11:15–17, Luke 19:45–46, and John 2:13–16
    Feeding 5,000: Matthew 14:13–21, Mark 6:31–44, Luke 9:12–17, John 6:1–14
    Zacchaeus: Luke 19:1-10
    Roof Healing: Luke 5:17-39

  • Gathered & Scattered: Find Your People
    2026/08/18

Welcome back to another episode of Gathered & Scattered, an exploration of this question that’s been gnawing at me for years: what’s the point of church? I love that one of the first things that all the gospel writers agree on is that it didn’t take long for Jesus to find his people after he stepped out of the Jordan and into his public ministry. We all know he called the disciples, but we often think about it in terms of evangelism and not community. I think we’ve got that backwards.

I want to invite to join my family and a few others as we begin to gather in person and give some shape to a community that we hope will echo more closely the one we see Jesus building with his disciples. We’ll begin meeting on Sunday, September 13 at 5:00pm at the Blackbird Creative Studio in downtown Laurel at Union Hall. The more the merrier. Drop me a message if you have any questions!

Let me know what you think.

  • Gathered & Scattered: Memory Lane
    2026/08/11

We’re starting Gathered & Scattered, a new series about what it means to be the body of Christ, an exploration of this question that’s been gnawing at me for years:

    What’s the point of church?

To figure out the point of church, we’ve got to go back to before there ever was a church, and take a look at how Jesus entered into the community where he lived. Before he ever gathered or scattered anyone on his own, it’s important to remember how he brought himself into the lives of others and see if there’s anything to take away.

I think there is. Let me know what you think.

  • Introducing "Gathered & Scattered!" (A NEW Series from God Knows Where)
    2026/08/07

As I’ve wrestled with the point of church over the past few years. I’ve kept coming back to two words:

    Gather and Scatter.

That’s the point of church as far as I can, well, gather.

To come together, to remember we aren’t alone, and then to go where God leads us out in the world, maybe together, maybe apart, to take that message of community and care with us where we go.

Over and over, Jesus brings people together or finds himself invited into their conversations and communities in progress and sends them out, back to their homes or cities or off on new adventures to be and become who God’s calling them to be. He gathers and he scatters. And he does it in beautifully human and holy ways. And he always reminds folks that whether we are gathered or scattered, we belong. We aren’t alone.

I hope you’ll join me here at God Knows Where, as we look at how Jesus gathered and scattered a community that transformed lives, communities, and the world by reminding us that we belong. And how we can translate that truth into our own real life communities in the post-modern, post-truth, digitally overwhelmed 21st-century world we call home. I’m hoping this series can be more of a roadmap or outline for the qualities and characteristics and practices we can look for and cultivate in our own communities of faith, wherever we are, so we can do our best to follow Jesus’ example.

After all, isn’t that the point of church?

  • NEW!!! Up and Down the Staircase (Genesis 28)
    2026/07/21

It is good to be back on the microphone with a new episode for you this week. A few days ago, I was invited to preach for my friend Mike at Ekklesia Hattiesburg, and I shared a reflection on the story of Jacob’s ladder or staircase. Whatever it was he saw that night while he slept on rock in the wilderness. Hope you enjoy!

I know I haven’t been around much, but don’t forget to follow the show on social media. You can leave me a message, drop me a question, whatever. And you can always support the show at the links below too!
