On September 9, 1972, No. 1 Nebraska arrived at the Los Angeles Coliseum as the defending national champion, riding a 32-game unbeaten streak and expected to roll over an unranked UCLA team that had gone just 2-7-1 the year before.

Instead, Harmon, running UCLA's wishbone offense, helped engineer a stunning 20-17 upset capped by Efren Herrera's game-winning field goal with just 22 seconds left.
