  • Resilience, Perspective & Life After Cancer | CDRE Jill Heineck | Episode 112
    2026/09/04

In this episode of Forward Facing, Mali sits down with Jill Heineck for a deeply personal conversation about cancer, resilience, identity, mental healing, relationships, and what it takes to rebuild your life after everything suddenly changes.Jill was just 35, thriving in her career and marriage, when she was diagnosed with uterine cancer. What followed was a radical hysterectomy, chemotherapy, hair loss, and an experience that forced her to confront not only her health, but the identity she had built around her career, appearance, independence, and drive.Years later, Jill faced cancer again, being diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2017 and then again in 2020. She also opens up about additional battles with melanoma and basal cell skin cancer, and what repeated diagnoses taught her about living with uncertainty. The conversation goes beyond the physical side of cancer into the emotional reality of losing your hair, struggling to recognize yourself, continuing to show up professionally while undergoing treatment, and learning that sometimes survival means allowing other people to carry you.Jill also shares how cancer completely changed the way she approached business, boundaries, relationships, and the people she allowed into her life. Some close friends disappeared after her diagnosis, while unexpected people stepped forward, teaching her one of her biggest lessons: when people show you who they are, believe them. They also discuss the often-overlooked experience of caregivers, learning to ask for help, protecting your energy, advocating for your own health, and why Jill believes the mental healing was ultimately harder than the physical recovery. If you’ve experienced cancer, a health crisis, loss of identity, a major life transition, or simply found yourself wondering how to move forward after life changes overnight, this conversation is a reminder that rebuilding doesn’t always mean returning to who you were before.Jill Heineck can be reached at:https://heineckandcompany.com/Timestamps00:00 - 02:30 | Trailer and Introduction02:30 - 04:49 | First Cancer Diagnosis and Life Suddenly Changing04:49 - 09:07 | Early Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Advocating for Your Health09:07 - 14:17 | Surgery, Hair Loss Fears, and Family Support14:17 - 20:07 | The Physical and Emotional Reality of Chemotherapy20:07 - 22:21 | Rethinking Work, Boundaries, and Personal Energy22:21 - 27:09 | Hair Loss, Identity, and Rebuilding Confidence27:09 - 30:44 | Learning to Accept Help and Support Caregivers30:44 - 37:01 | Cancer Support, Relationships, and Who Truly Shows Up37:01 - 41:39 | Recovery, Career Challenges, and Rebuilding After Cancer41:39 - 45:21 | Moving Beyond Victimhood and Reinventing Her Business45:21 - 48:47 | Bladder Cancer, Recurrence, and More Health Battles48:47 - 51:16 | Fitness, Mental Healing, and Fear of Cancer Returning51:16 - 53:06 | Prevention, Screening, and Staying Proactive About Health53:06 - 55:30 | Toxic Relationships and Jill’s Biggest Life Lessons55:30 - 59:15 | Moving Forward Through New Personal Goals59:15 - 01:00:08 | Where to Find Jill and Closing ThoughtsEvolve with us!Visit our website: https://forwardfacing.com Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/forwardfacingpodcastInstagram: @forwardfacingpodcastTikTok: @HastingsShadmehryemail us at podcast@hsfamilylaw.com Contact us for a consultation: https://hsfamilylaw.com/contact-us/

  • Defining Success & Reinventing Yourself | Life Coach Tonya Chaplin | Episode 111
    2026/08/21

In this episode of **Forward Facing**, Mali Shadmehry and Andee Hastings sit down with **Tonya Chaplin, founder of Tonya Chaplin Coaching**, for a powerful conversation about **limiting beliefs, mindset, identity, success, personal growth, and rebuilding your life through major transitions**.

Tonya explains how fear, comfort, old conditioning, and beliefs formed through life experiences can quietly influence the decisions we make. They explore why **comfort can feel like safety**, why highly driven and successful people can still feel stuck or unfulfilled, and what happens when you finally begin questioning the version of life you thought you were supposed to want.

Tonya also shares her own transformation — from nearly two decades in the corporate world to stepping away from a successful career, going through a major weight-loss and fitness journey, competing in bodybuilding in her 40s as a mother of three, and eventually becoming a life performance and mindset coach.

The conversation goes deeper into **identity after divorce and major life changes**, including the difficult question many people face when a relationship, career, body, or familiar chapter changes: *Who am I now?* They also discuss **Core Energy Coaching, the Energy Leadership Index, defining your personal values, changing habits through awareness, redefining success on your own terms, and what to look for when choosing a qualified life coach**.

If your life looks good on paper but something still feels missing, you’re navigating divorce or another major life transition, or you’re trying to understand why you keep falling into the same patterns, this conversation is for you.
