You've heard the story. Now hear the case.

Every culture tells stories about violence, betrayal, revenge, disappearance, obsession, grief, and power. Over time, those stories become myths, legends, and folklore, passed from generation to generation long after the original events have been forgotten.

Humanity's oldest stories preserve humanity's oldest crimes.

Folklore Forensics reopens humanity's oldest cases, investigating myths and legends from around the world as if they were real crimes. We reconstruct timelines, examine evidence, question witnesses, and follow the trail wherever it leads. Along the way, we ask not only what happened, but why cultures chose stories as the way to remember it.

Because folklore is more than entertainment. It is a record of the fears, desires, anxieties, and transgressions that societies could not stop talking about. A way of preserving difficult truths. A way of making sense of the unthinkable.

What details were exaggerated? What facts were lost to time? Why did certain crimes become monsters, curses, prophecies, and ghost stories? And what do humanity's oldest stories still reveal about us today?

  • The Cerridwen Manhunt: The Stolen Wisdom and Deadly Chase of Welsh Mythology
    2026/10/20

A servant boy stole three drops of divine wisdom from a Welsh sorceress. She hunted him across land, water, and sky and when she finally caught him, she swallowed him whole.

You've heard the story. Now hear the case.

His name is Gwion Bach. And according to Welsh folklore, he has accidentally swallowed three drops of divine wisdom, knowledge intended for the son of the powerful sorceress Cerridwen.

What follows is one of Celtic mythology's most extraordinary pursuits: a chase across land, river, and sky, as Cerridwen hunts the boy through a series of impossible transformations.

But beneath the magic lies a darker question.

What happens when a powerless servant acquires knowledge that his employer believes belongs to her?

In this episode of Folklore Forensics, we investigate Cerridwen's cauldron, the disappearance of Gwion Bach, and the strange journey that ultimately gives birth to the legendary Welsh bard Taliesin.

Was this a story of stolen wisdom, a desperate escape, or a struggle over who has the right to possess knowledge?

And can an idea ever truly belong to one person?

  • The Case Against Morgan le Fay: The Woman Blamed for Camelot's Fall
    2026/10/13

Morgan le Fay poisoned kings, kidnapped knights, stole Excalibur's scabbard, and plotted the destruction of Camelot. At least, that's what the prosecution says.

You've heard the story. Now hear the case.

Arthurian legend remembers Morgan as Camelot's great villain—a sorceress who poisoned kings, trapped knights, stole magical weapons, and conspired to destroy her own brother's kingdom.

But the earliest traditions remember Morgan very differently: as a healer, an educated woman, and the guardian of the sanctuary where the mortally wounded Arthur is taken for care.

    So what happened?

This week, Folklore Forensics reopens the case against Morgan le Fay.

We investigate the poisoned cup, the missing knights, the burning mantle, the political rebellions—and the centuries of storytelling that transformed a powerful woman associated with healing into the witch supposedly responsible for Camelot's destruction.

Was Morgan le Fay really the villain of Arthur's story?

Or did a collapsing kingdom need someone else to blame?

  • The Bell Witch Murder: Who Killed John Bell?
    2026/10/06

A farmer dies beside an unidentified bottle of poison and the ghost haunting his family claims responsibility. Was the Bell Witch America's strangest unsolved murder?

You've heard the story. Now hear the case.

This week on Folklore Forensics, we reopen one of the most famous supernatural mysteries in American folklore and investigate the Bell Witch as a possible crime.

Was the haunting an elaborate hoax? Could fear and psychological stress explain what witnesses experienced? Did decades of storytelling transform an ordinary family tragedy into a paranormal legend? Or could someone have used belief in the Bell Witch as the perfect cover for murder?

From frontier Tennessee and American folklore to disputed eyewitness testimony, the famous Andrew Jackson story, Betsy Bell, Kate Batts, and the mysterious death of John Bell, we're separating the historical record from two centuries of ghost stories.

Because behind one of America's most famous hauntings lies a question that has never been conclusively answered:

    Who killed John Bell?
