This episode returns to April 9, 2015, from a different vantage point: the unincorporated village of Fairdale, Illinois, named directly in the tornado warning issued at 7:21 PM for northeastern DeKalb County. The lead time was about eighteen minutes, considered reasonable for a storm of this type, yet two people were killed and twenty-two others injured. The reconstruction examines that gap between warning and outcome. The tornado, rated EF4 with estimated winds between 170 and 190 miles per hour, was narrow but intense, and it passed through the southern edge of a village that had never expected to be struck. The documentary traces how the alert traveled through the cell network, where a single point of failure left residents without notice, and follows the volunteer response that poured into a rural community with no formal disaster plan. It is a study of how a warning can succeed technically and still fail the people it is meant to reach.
