Felton starts his own band at 16, folds it when the drummer gets pulled for bad grades, then Michael Cooper turns up at his door to bring him into Project Soul. Soul Children frontman Norman West catches the band, fires his own band on the spot and hires them instead, sending a group of teenagers from California to Memphis on $65 a week. Three weeks later they are on the LA Coliseum stage behind Rufus Thomas, playing what became the Wattstax film. Skip and Felton relive United We Funk, where five legendary groups shared one stage and one setlist, trade their definitions of what music actually is, and Felton closes with a message to old school artists about selling direct to their own fan base.
