  • London to Paris
    2025/05/15

We open this week's episode with celebratory sounds from Paris as Matt was in the French capital when PSG beat Arsenal in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League to set up a showdown agsinst Internazionale. Meanwhile, Nick witnessed Chelsea make it to their first final under the new ownership as the Blues beat Djurgårdens IF to reach the final of the UEFA Conference League where they will play Real Betis. The other clips in this episode are from that same Conference semi-final.

The lads European football adventures see them talk about promising Chelsea academy graduate Reggie Walsh, ticketing problems at The Bridge as well as the kudos of eating in the same restaurant as Eric Cantona. All is revealed in the pod intro.

But anyway, we head back to FPL where Matt and Nick review their game weeks 35 and 36 respectively and plan ahead for the last two weeks of the Premier League season. Whilst not strictly a podcast, Matt gives an honourable mention for the excellent FPL content creator, FPL Denis. Speaking of honours, Nick is still in contention for multiple pieces of silverware, whereas Matt's season is all but over. Hopefully he'll be back stronger for the next campaign.

The brothers look to a big finale for FPL Pod VS Tok as the lads head to Wembley this weekend to see Chelsea V Manchester United in the Women's FA Cup. Nick will also watch the same fixture, albeit in the Premier League as Enzo Maresca's men look to get Champions League football themselves with a victory over Almorim's Red Devils.

And it's Chelsea's game against Manchester United in the Premier League which means that there's another early deadline this week. Interestingly enough, this is so that both sets of fans, like Nick, can also catch the FA Cup final featuring their two teams again on the Sunday. But, yes, make sure you get your transfers, tactics and captaincy decisions done by Friday the 16th of May at 18:00.

  • What's Going on at Chelsea?
    2025/05/05

Well this is a spicy episode! FPL Pod VS Tok turns into a something of a football phone in as Matt poses the question "what is going on at Chelsea?"

It's a pretty open one as questions go, and was inspired by recent editions of the Jon Obi-Mikel's The Obi-One Podcast. (Belated) Happy Star Wars Day to all those one celebrate.

We start by talking about the dramatic changes undergone by Chelsea since the fall of Roman's Empire and the acquisition of the club by the consortium fronted by Todd Bohley. The brothers admit that they have been spoilt as Blues fans over the past 20 years, but the transfer policies, management changes and multi-club ownership model under the current ownership do not sit easy with Matt and Nick. And yes, while they bemoan Chelsea's drop-off from serial winners to top 5 contenders, they do broaden out their discussion to the impact of big money in football, its ethics and whether it is sustainable in the long-term.

Alongside the Blues, we also talk Wrexham, Leeds, Portsmouth, Strasbourg, Red Bull and the Bundesliga. There's also a wee bit of FPL chat when we talk about the form of Cole Palmer.

Nick also declares his preference for non-league football and talks about how he feels valued and part of the community at AFC Croydon and their home, the Mayfield Stadium.

Normal service will be resumed in the next episode when Matt returns from a trip to Paris, but in the meantime, the next deadline for tactics, transfers and captaincy decisions is: Sat 10 May 13:30.

  • The Race for the Champions League
    2025/05/01

With game week 34 still in play at the time of recording, Matt and Nick discuss free hit performances and look ahead to the next round of matches.

It was a strong performance from Matt in 34, which he puts down to some much needed time off where he went all in on a podcast marathon. He knows how to live, eh?

Alongside taking in his usual favourites Matt's podcast of the week is FPL Focal who provides great FPL analysis and advice.

With the league title and relegation places all decided in April, the only thing to play for now in the Premier League is those coveted European places, particularly the top 5 Champions League spots. The brothers talk about which teams to consider for this run-in as well as the promise of double game weeks in 36.

As ever, the lads go off on their usual tangents, this time taking in the mastery of Jordan Pickford, AFC Wrexham's back to back to back promotions and the logistics of the Belgium and Scottish Leagues respectively. SPL Pod VS Tok next season anyone? The brothers also come up with a plan to get big Neville Southall involved in the pod.

Nick also opens the show by discussing how, like Thomas Tuchel as he goes from ground to ground to scout on potential England players, he travelled from Stamford Bridge after seeing Chelsea's 1-0 victory against Everton in the Premier League to the Mayfield Stadium where he met up with Dad to watch AFC Croydon beat East Grinstead 4-1 in their final game of the season. Clips from Croydon's match is available via their quality YouTube channel.

Going back to FPL, your deadline for transfers, tactics and captaincy decisions is, Friday the 2nd of May at 18:30.

  • All About the Free Hit
    2025/04/24

In this week's edition of FPL Pod VS Tok, Matt and Nick regale you the listeners with their performances over game weeks 32 and 33. Although game week 33 was still ongoing at the time of recording, Team Pod ended up with 64 points and Team Tok 76. So normal service resumed and you can still, (yes still), join our mini league. The code is: jeepsw

Looking ahead to game week 34, it's all about the free hit and, with both brothers playing that particular chip, they discuss a few players and teams that they will be considering for the largely blank game week which, of course, is due to the FA Cup fixtures.

Nick returns to Jimmy G for his Tik-Tok of the week and there is also chat about Chelsea's defeat to Legia Warsaw in the UEFA Conference League, victory for the Blues in the Adobe FA Cup, we also feature clips from this game, and we discuss AFC Croydon's victory against relegated Lancing FC.

Alongside all this, the next transfer deadline is 11:00am on the 26th of April BST.

  • What is the best football song?
    2025/04/16

On the back of our Seasons Change episode, Matt and Nick talk footie and music. In particular, the lads talk about their favourite football songs and why these are vastly superior to the likes of Sweet Caroline which often accompanies England FC games these days.

Speaking of England, Nick's choice for the national team is Vindaloo with his Chelsea selection being Sugg's Blue Day. This prompts Nick to talk about how modern day football songs are missing a distinct "geezery" quality to them these days.

Matt sings the praises of Three Lions and reminds listeners, that far from being an arrogant song from the England fans, it is actually a tune which laments historic failures from the national team and yearns for the summer of 1966 when the Men's Team last won the World Cup. Thankfully the Lionesses brought major silverware home in 2023 when they won the European Cup.

There are some off-beat mentions for World in Motion, Fool's Gold by the Stone Roses, Absurd by Fluke, Meat Pie Sausage Roll by Grandad Roberts and his Song Elvis and the Footie Song by Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish.

Of course listeners, you can tell us your favourites by contacting us via the following...

You can also tell us what you think makes a good football song. We're even tempted to put a playlist together as well!

As always, thanks again to Sea of Days for the brilliant music which was the inspiration for this episode. This edition of the pod features his awesome track Duality. Please also checkout Sea of Days, aka Shane Speed's, monthly radio show Seasons Change.

Going back to FPL, the transfer for deadlines, tactics and captaincy decisions is Saturday the 19th of April at 13:30!

  • Seagulls, Eagles and Unlucky Saints.
    2025/04/11

As we head towards game week 32, Matt and Nick review their GW31 performances after playing their wildcards in 30. With both their Assistant Manager chips now in play, things get even more interesting as the brothers tried to get as many points as they possibly can before the end of the season.

Ahead of talking all things Premier League, we chat AFC Croydon VS Burgess Hill and Kirby's absolute worldy to make it 3-0 to the Rams. You can see this amazing goal for yourself through the highlights below, (4:40 to be precise).

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ULdIgy08Ow&t=286s

But as the lads get back to FPL there is double game week chat with Nick going Eddie Howe as his Assistant Manager and Matt, for some reason, sticking to his choice of Crystal Palace's Oliver Glassner for the games against Manchester City and Newcastle United. The Palace chat also prompts the lads to discuss the Eagles recent heated game against Brighton and Hove Albion and the brothers talk about why these seemingly geographically distant teams hate each other so much. Despite our best efforts, the BBC land on the answer in the article below...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cx28km4dy0no#:~:text=But%20a%20rivalry%20is%20exactly,Hotspur%20but%20were%20never%20close.

We also talk Southampton and, with relegation now confirmed, whether the Saints can avoid the unwanted record held by the (other) Rams, Derby County, and not end up being the worst team in Premier League history.

Otherwise, the brother's talk about New Zealand and Forest's talisman Chris Wood, the continuing frustrations of Tottenham Hotspur and a lot of random Hamster references!

Looking ahead, the next transfer deadline is 11:00am on the 12th of April BST.

  • Our Most FPL Episode Yet!
    2025/04/03

After talking about their Mother's Day weekend visiting The Tutankhamun Experience in London, Matt and Nick move from the Egyptian Pharaoh to the Premier League's own Egyptian King, Mohammed Salah, as they talk all things FPL.

Having had plenty to think about over the international break and last weekend's FA Cup fixtures, the brothers are both ringing in the changes and activating their wildcards. After a challenging few game weeks, it seems that both Matt and Nick's enthusiasm for FPL is back as, strangely, they manage a Pod V Tok record and talk about the beautiful game within the beautiful game for at least 25 minutes straight!

There's discussion about the best options from Forest, Villa, Arsenal and Newcastle, (to name but a few of the teams discussed), as well as somewhat left-field punt from Nick ahead of Chelsea V Tottenham on Thursday the 3rd of April. Nick is also hoping for a strong end to the season as he assembles his dream team TikTok coaching set-up.

The games are now coming in thick and fast in the Premier League with the next transfer deadline being 11:00am on the 5th of April BST.

  • Isak Makes it So.
    2025/03/27

As the international break winds down and the FA Cup weekend beckons, the brothers reflect on wins for England, a draw for AFC Croydon Athletic and Matt's recent performance as part of the SAS Singers (School of Applied Sciences) in Brighton for a gig in aid of the Sussex Cancer Fund. Cue some more random Bona Nox jokes.

Going back to football, the lads then talk about their (still) early plans for game week 30 and beyond. Whilst Matt still wrangles whether to wildcard or not to wildcard, Nick does a bit of scouting by watching Northern Ireland's 1-5 defeat against a rampant Swedish side starring man of the moment Alexander Isak. This leads Nick to ponder whether Sweden could be a force on the international stage soon as well as some nostalgia about one of the all time great strikers, Zlatan Ibrahimović.

There's still a bit of a "schools out" vibe as the brothers do surf the waves of a few tangents, which includes a debate about whether Star Trek Deep Space Nine was better than Babylon 5.

Whether it's through cardio or confidence, the show comes to a close with Nick telling listeners about his experience of free hot wings and culture, which included his visit to the Chelsea 120 Exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery and features the younger of the bros talking about fashion, music, access, art and testimony. Check out our Insta page for some pics of his trip.

Coming back to the present, the next transfer deadline is: 18:15 on the 1st of April.
