Nesbitt has guided the Indians to back-to-back Class 6 District championships and is looking to continue that success into this season. This week, we welcome Cape Central Volleyball Head Coach Sommer McCauley-Perdue to the show. After a standout career at Notre Dame, McCauley-Perdue has worked her way up the coaching profession and finds herself at the helm of Cape’s volleyball and girls basketball teams. In year 1, Coach led Cape Central to their best season in program history. We talked about that and how she and the program will try to reload after losing a talented senior class. We also talked about what goes into building a successful program and the work necessary to achieve their goals. Finally, we discussed this upcoming season and what we can expect out of the Cape Central volleyball program this season.

This week, we welcome Jackson Volleyball Head Coach Dave Mirly to the show. Mirly, a Jackson grad, spent years honing his craft by coaching multiple sports at various locations. Since taking the reins at his alma mater, the Indians have topped 26 wins every season to go along with 6 consecutive district championships (including 4 30+ win seasons during that time).
We discuss his path that led him to Jackson, which includes stops from New Madrid to Perryville. We then discuss the success of his program at Jackson, highlighting how they’ve consistently met high expectations. Finally, we look ahead at the upcoming volleyball season for his Indians squad and how he’s already seen massive improvements from his players throughout the offseason.

We welcome a special guest, Ty Crowden, this week. After graduating as a multi-sport athlete at Jackson, Ty went on to run at SEMO, where he found success as a multi-eventer. He’s since used his acquired knowledge and years of experience to invest his time back in hundreds of local athletes at Cape, Perryville, and now Jackson.
We discuss his athletic background and his coaching career to this point. Then we talk about the current “health” of track and field around SEMO and across the state. Finally, we close with a lengthy discussion about his current team at Jackson, being the day-to-day coach of 2 of the best in the state in Barrett and Blayne Reagan.

Caleb wraps up the spring sports postseason across the Cape/Jackson area. Notre Dame girls soccer and Jackson baseball made runs to the quarterfinals before getting bounced. We also dive into the state track and field championship, where lots of local representatives showed out. No one showed up more than Jackson sophomore Blayne Reagan, who came away with the gold medal in the 400m with a time of 47.05.

Congrats to all the athletes who competed this spring on great seasons! Best of luck to all the outgoing seniors in all future endeavors, as well as with the close of the 2024-25 school year.
