  • #162 Red Light Therapy: Science, Hype, Or An Expensive Light Bulb?
    2026/09/16

    Send us Fan Mail

This week on Everything’s Messy Podcast, I’m keeping things short, messy, and straight to the point.

I start with a little life update and some gratitude before jumping into something that seems to be EVERYWHERE in the wellness world right now: red light therapy.

You know how I feel about wellness trends. When something suddenly claims to help your skin, inflammation, mitochondria, recovery, autoimmune conditions, thyroid, sleep, energy and basically everything except your laundry…I have questions.

So, is red light therapy legitimate—or are we looking at another wellness trend with really good marketing?

I talk about what red light therapy actually is, why wavelength, strength and dosage matter, and why simply buying the strongest red-light device doesn't necessarily mean you're getting better results.

And, of course, I had to dig into Hashimoto’s.

There is some promising research looking at red light therapy—also called photobiomodulation—and thyroid health. But promising research doesn't mean we've found a cure, and it certainly doesn't mean we should replace medication or medical care with the latest wellness gadget.

I also take a look at the history of red light therapy, because despite its recent explosion on social media, researchers have actually been studying this concept since the 1960s.

Then I ask the question I couldn't get out of my head:

If red light is so beneficial, why didn't we need these panels hundreds or thousands of years ago?

Maybe because we already had something pretty powerful…

    ☀️ THE SUN.

My biggest takeaway from this episode isn't that you need to run out and buy a red-light panel.

    It's actually the opposite.

Before adding another wellness trend to your routine, understand what you're trying to accomplish and whether there's evidence behind what you're buying.

Sometimes getting back to basics—sunlight, movement, sleep, real food and taking care of ourselves—is still pretty powerful.

Wellness shouldn't become another thing we're overwhelmed trying to perfect.

    Keep asking questions.

    Keep doing your research.

    And, of course…

    Keep it Messy. 🦋

  • #161 Consistency: Why Making It Easier Might Be the Answer
    2026/09/09

We’re heading into fall… allegedly. Here in Southern California, it’s still hot, humid, and not exactly giving cozy sweater weather. But the change of seasons got me thinking about another kind of transition—the ones we’re constantly trying to make in our own lives.

And specifically: Why is it so hard to stay consistent when we KNOW what we want to do?

On this episode of Everything's Messy Podcast I get down to the triggers that might keep us from executing a plan of action to be consistent and peel back the layers to discover what's holding us back...

We hear all the time that consistency is the secret to building habits.

    Be consistent with your workouts.
    Be consistent with your food.
    Be consistent with your sleep.
    Be consistent with your routines.

Okay...but what happens when you’re burned out?

What happens when your nervous system is already overwhelmed, you're making a thousand decisions a day, and adding one more “healthy habit” feels like one more thing you’re failing at?

In this episode, I’m talking about the connection between burnout, mindset, decision-making, and consistency—and why the answer may not be more discipline.

Sometimes, we need to go back to the MESS first.

I share one of my own struggles with meal prepping. I had all the right intentions, but I was making the process so complicated that I couldn't consistently do it. When I finally reversed the way I was thinking about it, I realized something ridiculously simple:

I was making it harder than it needed to be.

Instead of prepping a million different meals, I started focusing on a few basic ingredients I could mix and match for myself and my family.

    Less decision-making.
    Less overwhelm.
    Less perfection.
    More consistency.

    That’s where momentum starts.

This episode is your reminder that maybe you don't need to try harder.

Maybe you need to make it simpler.

Because sustainable consistency isn't about doing everything perfectly.

It's about creating something you can actually keep doing when life gets messy.

    Keep it Messy. 💕

  • #160 Finding Your People: Why Community Might Be the Wellness Tool We’re Missing
    2026/09/02

    Send us Fan Mail

When did making friends as an adult get so complicated?

In this episode of Everything’s Messy Podcast, I sit down with Janessa Vicenty founder of "Girls on the Go" for a conversation about something we don’t always put in the wellness category: community, connection, and simply having somewhere you feel like you belong.

Janessa shares how her passion for bringing people together grew into Girls on the Go, creating events where women can show up, try something new, meet people, and actually connect—without feeling like they have to fit a certain age, background, or personality to belong.

And what started as an idea has grown into something much bigger.

We talk about how socializing is changing, especially among younger generations who may be choosing wellness events, experiences, movement, and meaningful connection over the traditional bar scene. We also get into why creating different kinds of events matters. Not everyone wants to hike. Not everyone wants yoga. Not everyone wants a fancy dinner. Building real community means creating enough variety that people can find the spaces that feel like them.

Janessa also shares the evolution into Man on the Move and co-ed experiences designed to bring even more people together.

But underneath all of it is a bigger conversation:

    We need people.

Sometimes healing isn't another supplement, morning routine, or wellness hack. Sometimes it's getting out of the house, doing something that makes you a little uncomfortable, talking to someone you wouldn't normally meet, and realizing you aren't as alone as you thought.

We talk about stepping outside your comfort zone, creating inclusive spaces, friendships that have grown from these events, and what happens when an idea meant to connect a few people turns into a real community.

    Because wellness can be messy.

    Friendship can definitely be messy.

And sometimes finding your people starts with being brave enough to walk into the room.

    Keep it Messy. 🦋
