The 102nd Annual Membership Meeting of the Association on American Indian Affairs featured an unforgettable live taping of Red Hoop Talk Episode 86, starring the hilarious and groundbreaking comedian JR Redwater. A citizen of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, U.S. Navy veteran, and pioneer in Native comedy, JR shared stories filled with humor and heart. From his Navy days to his first day of 7th grade and his explosion onto the comedy scene, JR’s personal journey had the audience laughing, crying, and reflecting.
Known for his role in Showtime’s Goin' Native: The Indian Comedy Slam, JR brought his signature style of blending sharp wit with compelling storytelling. The event, held on December 4, 2024, at Soboba Springs Golf Club in San Jacinto, California, was attended by members and supporters in person and virtually. This special live episode celebrated Native voices, humor, and the power of storytelling as a bridge to connect and inspire.
