This week, we are joined by Seb Royle for a conversation about what happens when the successful life you’ve built starts to come apart and what might be waiting on the other side.
Seb has built and sold successful businesses, raised three children, got sober, lived through a breakdown and a bipolar diagnosis, and four years ago suffered a cardiac arrest that left him clinically dead for 35 minutes.
But the conversation goes well beyond the dramatic moments into some more ordinary questions many of us will come up against. Do we really have to wait for something to break before we allow ourselves to change?
Seb talks openly about the years of pushing, achieving and carrying on even when something inside him knew it wasn’t working. About walking away from a business and a version of himself he had spent decades building. About the impact on his marriage and his children, and the difficulty of trying to work out who you are when the things that once defined you need to go.
We get into sobriety, bipolar, mortality, men’s work, relationships, spirituality, travel, meditation, community and the search for meaning in the second half of life.
A very open conversation with a man who spent much of his life trying to make things happen and who is now discovering what it feels like to let life happen to him.
