概要

Organic Oasis was started in 2023 in Palm City, Florida by Laurie Scott and Sarah Glover, with a shared passion for sustainable agriculture and healthy, locally grown food. They tend four acres by hand, building living soil and starting every plant from seed. As a USDA Certified Organic farm, Laurie and Sarah are committed to growing fresh, nutrient-dense produce while protecting the land for generations to come. They strive to create a deeper connection between people and where their food comes from.

Did you know Florida soil is basically sand? Yep. And somehow, these women are turning it into seriously healthy, nutrient-packed growing soil. 🌱🥕

Crissy and Marie sit down with Laurie and Sarah from Organic Oasis in Palm City, Florida, for a fun, behind-the-scenes look at what it really takes to grow organic food in Florida.

We’re talking red wiggler worms, worm castings, compost tea, OMRI-listed inputs, certified organic land, CSA boxes, Florida freezes, and so much more. And honestly, once you hear how much goes into the soil, you might never look at your vegetables the same way again.

Sarah shares how her background in health sciences and applied anatomy eventually led her to farming during COVID, while Laurie tells us how a little garden plot turned into helping keep Shadowwood Farm organic and growing for the local community.

And then there’s the soil. 👀

We get into why worm castings are like a whole little microbiome for your garden, how making their own compost has helped reduce fertilizer inputs, and how they’re building a more resilient farm with cover crops, shade houses, fruit trees, and local compost partnerships.

We’re talking about:

  • Why Florida soil can be so challenging to grow in
  • Why worm castings are basically magic for healthy soil
  • How making their own compost changed the way they farm
  • What’s growing right now, from lettuces and kale to tomatoes, roselles and sweet potatoes
  • How a CSA works and what it’s like getting a farmer-curated box of seasonal produce
  • What “certified organic” actually means behind the scenes
  • How Florida freezes can completely change a growing season
  • Why local produce can taste so different
  • And why healthier soil can mean healthier food

If you’ve ever wondered where your food actually comes from, what organic farming really looks like, or why your local farmer is probably talking about soil way more than you expected, this episode is for you.

It’s a conversation about food, farming, health, community, and getting a little closer to the people and soil behind what ends up on our plates.

So grab your coffee, your gardening gloves, or just your curiosity, and come hang out with us at Organic Oasis.
