このコンテンツについて
In this episode of “What is it like”, our guest, Guy, tells us about growing up in Japan, the USA, Italy, and England and what it is like to have your identity shaped by various cultures. Uniquely, Guy spent many formative years in northern rural Japan with his ethnically Russian grandparents. He reveals what it was like to stand out so starkly amongst the Japanese kids at his school due to his blue eyes and light hair. When moving from Japan to the West, he shares that he was most shocked by the cows!
When asked how he approached the changes in culture and environment, Guy emphasizes the importance of being open-minded and flexible. As a young child, he remembers relying on sports to integrate into communities, from baseball in the States to football in the UK.
Guy’s experiences with so many different cultures have allowed him to thrive in his current environment, surrounded by friends from various cultures. His ability to empathise and understand others has allowed him to make strong, life-long connections.
