このコンテンツについて

Education Through Music (ETM) is the largest nonprofit provider of direct and comprehensive music education as a core subject in New York City schools. To explore the practice and importance of music education with guests in and beyond the field of music education, ETM hosts two podcasts.

In Education Through Music: The Podcast, host Noah Teachey sits down with guest teachers, schools administrators, and education researchers to discuss the practice and importance of music education in our schools. Conversations highlight the value of music education to students, the critical role that qualified music teachers have in transforming classrooms into spaces of learning and discovery, and music’s unique ability to strengthen school communities.

In ETM's podcast series, Notables, Noah sits down with leaders in the music, arts, technology, and related industries to learn about the influential role that music has played in their lives. Guests share formative experiences about being exposed to music at an earlier age, the ongoing impact of music on their careers, and their perspectives on the importance of ensuring all students have access to high quality music education at school.

Education Through Music is a 32 year-old music nonprofit organization that partners with under-resourced New York City schools to build sustainable music programs.

    2025/07/01
"I don't know where I'd be without music."

This comes from Ben Hayes, ETM board member and Vice President at Goldman Sachs where he serves as a member of the legal team within Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Long before law school, Ben performed with a number of orchestras, concert bands, jazz groups, and brass ensembles, including tours with the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. He also performed and toured as a musician in Blast! The Broadway Show throughout the U.S., Japan, and South Korea.

For our final Notables episode of the season, we speak with Ben about his formative experiences as a music student and performer. From the influence of his high school band director to performing to sold out audiences in Tokyo, Ben's life and career has been shaped by the lessons he's learned from the hours and hours of practice, preparation, and performance as a musician. Tune in for proof of how making room for music can unlock enthusiasm and cultivate a mindset to bring one's full self into all facets of life.
