  • A Complete Unknown (James Mangold, 2024)
    2025/10/18

We’re back with an exciting new episode about screening the Bob Dylan biopic, entitled A Complete Unknown. First, I’m delighted to welcome my guest co-host, for this episode, Barbara Mitchellhill. Barbara is a committee member of the cinema group and many of our listeners will have had their tickets checked by her. She has written for BBC children's television and is an award winning author of many children's books. Welcome Barbara!

Today we'll look at the upcoming Dylan biopic, and talk about how last month's film, The Penguin Lessons (Peter Cattaneo, 2024) was received by the audience.

Barabara also lists the other biopics she'd love to see, and of course we ask where is Keith.

  • Mr Burton (Marc Evans, 2025)
    2025/05/19

Hello and welcome back to Eccleshall Community Cinema podcast, with your hosts Kris & Keith.

Coming up on Thursday, June 19th, 2025, Eccleshall Community Cinema is proud to screen Mr Burton by the Welsh director, Marc Evans.

Set in 1940s Port Talbot, Wales, the narrative follows an unruly young man, named Richard Jenkins (portrayed by Harry Lawtey). Richard struggles to navigate poverty, pressure to follow his father into coal mining, and a burgeoning talent for drama. The latter catches the attention of his teacher, Philip Burton (played by Toby Jones), who becomes his mentor and emotional anchor. He even takes his teacher's name to become “Richard Burton.”

Mr Burton will give us a look at Burton’s formative years before he became the Hollywood megastar we remember. He was of course known for his acting, but also for his tumultuous marriage to Elizabeth Taylor. • Maria (Pablo Larrain, 2024)
    2025/05/03

Welcome to the Eccleshall Community Cinema podcast. We’re here because great films deserve great company. We want to share stories, spark conversation, and bring our local community together, one film at a time.Whether you’re a lifelong cinephile or just love a good movie night, you’ve come to the right place. So, grab your popcorn, and let’s talk film.

Hi, I’m Kris Grainger, podcast producer and your host for this first episode of the Eccleshall Community Cinema podcast. In this very first episode we'll be introducing you to Eccleshall Community Cinema and meeting its chairman Keith Winstanley MBE.

Coming up on Thursday, 15th May 2025, Eccleshall Community Cinema is screening a film simply called Maria. But don’t let the simplicity of the title fool you; it is the story of the legendary soprano, Maria Callas, whose story is anything but simple.

Maria Callas was a woman of extraordinary talent, passion, and complexity. The film dives deep into her life, capturing the triumphs, the struggles with the press who often characterised her as temperamental for cancelling performances when she was ill, and capturing the incredible artistry of one of the most iconic figures in the world of opera.
