  • Reclaiming the Black Body: Exploring our Relationship to Food with Alishia McCullough
    2025/09/16

{Content Warning: Eating Disorders} Have you ever felt guilty about eating the foods you love? If so, this episode is for you.

My guest, Alishia McCullough, is a millennial Licensed Clinical Mental Health Therapist and the founder of Black and Embodied. In this conversation, we explore how our relationship with food is not only personal, it’s political, it’s historical and shaped by trauma.

    We explore:

    • How Alishia got started in this work
    • The ways that diet culture, healthism distorts our relationship with food
    • How fatphobia is rooted in white supremacy and impacts the ways we nourish ourselves
    • The importance of shifting our language away from “eating disorders” to “eating imbalances” and the Indigenous wisdom around embracing this perspective
    • and so much more…

I hope this episode invites you to have a more holistic relationship with food and with yourself. I also hope the next time you sit down for a meal there’s less guilt and more joy.
